Emergency Shelter Case Manager (Part-Time)

JOB STATUS: This position requires evening hours, 5:30pm - 10:30pm, 4 evenings per week 


Peter & Paul Community Services (PPCS) provides housing and supportive services to individuals who are homeless, especially those experiencing mental illness or living with HIV. A permanent supportive housing residence, two transitional housing programs, two emergency shelters, meals program, art collaborative, and sport for social change program serve over 1,750 unduplicated clients annually. PPCS offers shelter, food, psychiatric care, job skills training, help for chemical addictions, and a welcoming community for those who feel isolated.   • Assists shelter residents in forming goals upon entry to the shelter
  • Provides referrals and resources to residents that will assist them in reaching their desired goals
  • Engages with residents during their time in the shelter, following designated follow-up meeting schedule to discuss client’s progress in reaching their goals
  • Assesses clients’ need for substance abuse treatment, providing additional resources to clients in need of treatment
  • Assesses clients’ need for medical and/or mental health treatment, providing additional resources to clients in need of treatment
  • Maintains client files by completing assessments on new clients; compiling authorizations, releases and previous medical records; and writing progress notes in a timely and confidential manner
  • Assists clients with employment searches, and applications, as needed
  • Assists clients in searching for housing, and contacting housing resources
  • Assists residents in obtaining income and creating a budget
  • Provides conflict resolution and crisis intervention for residents
  • Routinely tracks resident and program outcomes providing monthly and quarterly reports for grant purposes
  • Participates in annual/semi-annual certifications (CPR, First Aid) training requirements and continuing education including agency in-service trainings
  • Possesses a working knowledge of community resources available to low income housing and homeless individuals
  • Holds residents accountable to all program requirements and terminates the shelter program if deemed necessary
  • Assists Program Director and Assistant Director in program design and development
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-services
  • Performs other services as required by the Program Director and Assistant Director


  • Preferred Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy, Substance Abuse, Counseling, Social Work, or other related human services field
  • A minimum of five years’ case management experience may substitute for degree if experience is in a related field involving direct work with those who are homeless
  • Interest in providing services to people experiencing substance abuse, severe and persistent mental illness, dual diagnosis, homelessness and/or HIV/AIDS
  • Knowledge of documentation standards and experience collecting and maintaining data in electronic form
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and privacy standards, crisis management and harm reduction principles
  • Working knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Cultural sensitivity toward diverse populations required
