Amy Rome, CFRE, Founder & Principal
Amy Rome has been a consultant for 20 years and has more than 35 years of experience in development and fundraising, strategic planning and leadership development in the nonprofit sector.

Prior to her consulting work, Amy was President of the St. Louis Metropolitan Association for Philanthropy (now the Gateway Center for Giving), a membership organization of philanthropic corporations and foundations. She also held several positions with the United Way of Greater St. Louis.

Amy is a leader in nonprofit education, having served as an adjunct faculty member in the graduate social work program at Washington University’s George Warren Brown School of Social Work. She has also taught in the University’s Nonprofit Management Program and at the University of Missouri St. Louis, and previously held several positions with the United Way of Greater St. Louis.

Amy holds a masters degree in Social Work from Washington University where she received the Distinguished Alumni award from the school in 2006. This award is given to an alumna who has demonstrated the highest levels of professional achievement and leadership and who serves as a model for all students and alumni of the University.   She is also is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).

Ellen Howe, Managing Director
Ellen Howe has been involved in the nonprofit sector for 15 years as a consultant, development officer and program director. She spent 10 years with YMCAs of Greater St. Louis and was responsible for the financial development and marketing departments, as well as serving as the staff liaison for two board committees. Previously, Ellen worked in several sales capacities for The Upjohn Company and Genentech. In addition to her work with The Rome Group, she is a board member of De La Salle Middle School at St. Matthews.

Ellen has a B.S. degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and a certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
 

Elizabeth George, Managing Director
Elizabeth joined The Rome Group in 2014 and assists our clients with fundraising and strategic planning, leadership development, capital campaign strategy and ongoing counsel. Previously, she served as a Vice President with Deaconess Foundation, where she led the “Deaconess Impact Partnership” capacity building program, providing local child-serving agencies with grant funding and technical assistance to help them build their leadership, management, and technical capacity. She also played a pivotal role in founding and leading the Regional Early Childhood Council and Leadership for Social Change.

Before joining Deaconess Foundation, Elizabeth was Director of Business Development for the Rensselaerville Institute, Director of Washington University’s Career Center, and Assistant Dean of Admissions at the University’s George Warren Brown School of Social Work. She also served as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Social Work. She holds a Masters in Social Work from Washington University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BA from the University of Puget Sound.

Ashley Casan Holmes, Associate
Ashley joined us in 2014 and provides our clients with interim development management, fundraising audits and plans, and support for capital campaigns, market studies, and strategic planning. Previously, she served as Director of Development with Meds & Food for Kids, where she led efforts to close the organization’s first Capital Campaign and grow unrestricted funding by 71 percent. As a practicum student, she helped Beyond Housing conduct needs assessments and develop capacity building strategies related to that organization’s 24:1 collective impact initiative. She also served as an Event Coordinator for the National Conference for Community and Justice and worked in urban education in Philadelphia.
 
She is a graduate of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. She also holds a B.A. in Religious Studies and Philosophy from the University of Arizona. In 2010, she received a certificate in Nonprofit Management from LaSalle University’s School of Business in Philadelphia, PA.

Alice Squires, Client Services Manager
Alice has over 30 years of experience in operations management and administration. Prior to joining The Rome Group, Alice worked for Hartford Financial Services Group in St. Louis and in Hartford, Connecticut. Her career with The Hartford included development of new business systems, focusing primarily on the creation and implementation of workflow procedures and policies. Alice also held several management positions within the Claims Department.

Alice was an active volunteer and served on the Board of Directors of COCSI (Claim Organization Community Service Initiative), which supported an inner city school in Hartford through mentoring programs for children. She was also involved with the Christmas in April program in Hartford and was a volunteer with Wildlife Rescue in Ballwin, MO.  Alice currently volunteers with Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Michelle Fielder, Associate
Michelle specializes in developing clear and compelling written materials – gift and grant proposals, case statements, brochures, letters, and newsletters – that help for-profit and non-profit organizations to educate, inform, motivate, and persuade their constituents. Additionally, she brings both depth and breadth of experience in planning, implementing, and managing projects that require high communication and organization, including feasibility studies and fundraising campaigns.

Prior to consulting, Michelle worked as an admissions counselor in higher education. Michelle graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and she holds an M.A. from Boston College.
