POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of Institutional Philanthropy reports to the Associate Vice President, Philanthropy and is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate, foundation and government support. Responsibilities include implementing and managing a proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing institutional support and partnerships.
The Manager of Institutional Philanthropy will manage a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and government prospects, identify funding opportunities and develop forward-thinking, dynamic and comprehensive strategies to support the SLSO annual campaign, special events, and long-term initiatives.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, a strategic thinker, a team player, passionate about the mission of the SLSO and possess the poise, experience, and attitude to build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
REPORTS TO: Associate Vice President, Philanthropy
Responsibilities:
1. Work collaboratively with the Philanthropy Team and other departments/staff to reach fundraising goals for the SLSO.
2. Build strong relationships across internal departments to ensure that the Institutional Philanthropy team is abreast of all organizational-wide programs and activities.
3. Participate in donor visits, craft and present proposals/grants, and secure multi-year commitments and outright gifts in support of the annual and long-term initiatives of the SLSO.
4. Develop, maintain and grow relationships with community leaders, and corporate and foundation donors introducing them to the SLSO mission and funding opportunities.
5. Identify, create and produce grant applications, follow-ups and impact reports for corporate, government and foundation funders/partners.
6. Work with Institutional Philanthropy team members to solicit corporate and foundation donors/prospects through direct mail, prescribed application procedures and/or personal visits, as appropriate.
7. In partnership with SLSO staff, develop strategies for attracting new corporate and foundation donors, while maintaining and increasing support from current donors.
8. Serve as internal coordinator for corporate solicitations; work with related development and marketing staff and volunteers to achieve institutional philanthropy goals and align sponsorship and philanthropic solicitations.
9. Schedule, prepare materials, and accompany staff and volunteers (when appropriate) on corporate, foundation, and government agency calls.
10. Work with designated events staff to cultivation and stewardship events and collateral that support fundraising goals.
11. Work with SLSO staff, board members, advisory council members and other volunteers to complete the above functions.
12. Stay abreast of local, state and national news regarding corporate, foundation and government donors and prospects, as well as giving trends.
13. Develop and implement strategies for informing and engaging local and state legislators and other government contacts in SLSO activities.
14. Provide creative and technical writing support for copy and correspondence generated by the Philanthropy Department.

16. Perform other duties as needed or directed.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum two years not-for-profit development experience, along with strong research and writing experience to obtain sufficient background to perform duties of the position. Also, a strong music background preferred.

9. Proficient user of office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and donor databases.
10. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
11. Ability to communicate with internal and external contacts, often crossing several organizational departments. Considerable tact required in most duties or tasks performed to achieve results.
