Background:

Founded in 2001 to provide an excellent educational opportunity for students living in North St. Louis, De La Salle, Inc. seeks a driven, committed, focused and dynamic professional to lead its fund development efforts.  De La Salle, Inc. is a non-profit dedicated to supporting La Salle Middle School and enhancing the educational experience of its students. De La Salle, Inc. provides both programming and facilities to La Salle Middle School.

The Director of Advancement is responsible for overseeing all aspects of De La Salle’s fundraising efforts with a goal of raising $2 million annually.  This position will manage a portfolio of grantmakers, donors and prospects for solicitation of annual and major gifts, program and operating grants, and special event contributions. They will also oversee marketing, branding, public relations and other communications initiatives. In this role, she or he will work closely with the entire leadership team, the Board of Directors and various Board committees to build and implement a successful development strategy.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Works with the Executive Director in the areas of fundraising, public relations, and marketing in the organization’s mission:

  • Responsible for helping lead De La Salle, Inc.  in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s direction and mission.
  • Responsible for helping the Executive Director by providing all information necessary to make informed decisions.
  • Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
  • Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through strategy and planning.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee and implement organization wide fund development activities to meet goals and contribute to sustainability of the program.
  • Work with leadership team to develop and manage an Advancement budget that meets organizational needs and strategic plan goals.
  • Lead long term and short term strategic planning efforts for department and provide recommendations for fundraising growth.
  • Oversee grants program through management of prospect research, proposal writing, reporting, and trustee relationship management.
  • Lead the development/design of and support the implementation of annual fundraising events.
  • Direct public relations and marketing initiatives.
  • Ensure continuity of tone and message, oversee branding process organization-wide, direct communications and marketing efforts.
  • Identifying potential donors and otherwise increase the overall visibility.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with a wide variety of constituencies including current and potential donors, foundations and government sources, local businesses and community partners.
  • Facilitate Board of Directors Advancement Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Qualifications:

1. A bachelor’s degree;

2. Transparent and high integrity leadership and a style that motivates people to work hard while having fun;

3. Solid, proven budget management skills including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting;

4. Strong organizational abilities including collaborating, planning, delegating and task facilitation;

5. Three to five years experience in professional fundraising to include applied knowledge of

fundraising strategies and donor relations with foundations, individuals, corporations, and other sources.

6. Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate De La Salle’s vision at all levels and across organizational lines in a manner inspiring to staff, board, donors and volunteers;

7. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff with a “hands-on” orientation to the workplace and supervision, and the humility to be willing to take on any task at any time

Other Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years management experience preferred, with both program and staff
  • Demonstrated experience and success in coordinating fund development programs
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and managing competing priorities
