Position Overview
GO! St. Louis
, a local nonprofit organization, seeks a vice president of operations to work as an integral part of the team that hosts 5 large events each year, including the annual GO! St. Louis Marathon Weekend. GO! St. Louis is an organization that manages and executes its own events and programs from start to finish, and prides itself on hosting some of the region’s largest and most successful events.

This role will be responsible for working closely with the organization’s president to assist in managing and executing all GO! St. Louis events.  As a small organization, the individual in this position will have a critical role in race management, communications, sponsor relationships, and event coordination and logistics.  A strong background in project management or logistics is required for this position and prior experience in event planning is a plus.  An interest in or knowledge of running is preferred.

GO! St. Louis Mission
GO! St. Louis, a local non-profit organization, encourages individuals and families in the St. Louis region to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle year round. The organization accomplishes this through community collaborations, school based programming and the creation of new and fun fitness events.

The GO! St. Louis Marathon Weekend, held each spring, attracts over 20,000 local, national, and international participants and is celebrating its 22th anniversary this year. The event features 10 different races for all ages and fitness abilities. It is Missouri’s largest competitive fitness event and includes a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 10K, 5K run/walk, children’s fun runs, and a mature mile. The organization also hosts four additional events and several community and youth programs throughout the calendar year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all participant experience operations for all GO! St. Louis events including:
    Oversees online event registration platforms
    Manages all participant amenities and orders (event shirts, medals, etc.)
    Coordinates post-race/finish line experience: food and other vendors
    Manages all participant race logistics: shuttles, packet pick up, and other logistics as each event requires.
  • Works closely with the president to ensure participant operations coordinate seamlessly with race operations.
  • Oversees volunteer operations for each event including recruitment, management, and relationship building with key volunteers. Works closely with the president to recruit volunteers for essential race management and on-course needs.
  • Services event sponsors in partnership with the president including direct communication with sponsors and managing each relationship and sponsorship benefits package.
  • Uses excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist in writing event related materials as required.
  • Works collaboratively with all team members to provide assistance with all aspects of race planning and office responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in event planning, project management or transferable skill areas.
  • Has experience managing other employees or volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure (and even better – enjoy it!)
  • Can move and think quickly.
  • Able to lift 30+ pounds without difficulty, and can work on feet for extended periods.
  • Possesses strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Displays great customer service skills.
  • Has a strong attention to detail and high quality of work.
  • Able to work on weekends and evenings for events and other community programs as needed.
