Nine PBS: Curriculum Design Manager

Position Description

The Curriculum Design Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of training resources for Nine PBS. This Curriculum Design Manager will write, update, evaluate, and propose training programs supporting education: on-air, e-learning, virtually, and in-person.

The Manager will also be responsible for reviewing Teaching in Room 9 lessons from on-air teachers to ensure the quality of instruction and develop these teachers in continuous improvement of lesson content and delivery.

This position reports to the shared supervision of the Director of Learning and Engagement and the Director of Early Learning. Performance is reviewed by the ability to strategically ensure the quality of our on-air and on-the-ground instruction, supporting our commitment to provide trusted content to the students and educators of the St. Louis region.

Job Responsibilities

·       Design instructional strategies, activities, and materials that support performance and learning for formal and informal educators.

·       Outline and deliver timely training project plans.

·       Design and maintain training resources leveraging PBS Learning Media.

·       Assist in the development of instruments to assess individual change in knowledge, skills and quality results from trainings and training resources.

·       Facilitate training as needed to support operational goals.

·       Communicate with supervisors regularly with updates, concerns, and celebrations.

·       Support existing relationships with educators, school administrators and district leadership with cultivation of new connections for strategic service expansion.

·       Supervise a fellow who will aid in the development of continuing relationships with educator participants beyond training sessions.

·       Build lasting relationships with regional education leaders.

·       Support continuous improvement of on-air teachers’ lesson content and delivery, ensuring best practices and research-based strategies are employed.

·       Conduct reviews of on-air objectives assessing the need for modifications to content and structure.

·       Take the initiative to identify opportunities, innovative approaches, and ways to advance on-air and on-the-ground education curriculum design.

·       Research current industry trends and recommend and incorporate related updates into the standard curriculum.

·       Keep abreast of best practices and evidence-based instructional strategies, as well as professional development opportunities at the local, regional and/or state level in Missouri.

·       Maintain working knowledge of public media’s role in education.

·       Other duties as assigned to support the effectiveness of the Impact team.

Required Skills

·       Deep knowledge of Missouri and/or Illinois Grade Level Expectations for reading and math

·       Understanding of best practices/evidence-based teaching techniques, including tracking outcomes and data, and the ability to effectively incorporate these techniques throughout job functions

·       Effective experience in working with diverse populations and implementing communications and change strategies that are effective and culturally sensitive

·       Familiarity with Nine PBS and public media early education resources

·       Strong organizational and project planning skills

·       Ability to prioritize, work independently and under pressure, meet deadlines and take direction

·       Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule

·       Proven ability to handle public and internal interactions with diplomacy and tact without additional supervision

·       Must present a professional manner and appearance

·       Key soft skill competencies include: intellectual, receptive, people-orientated, versatility, collaborative, resourceful, continuous learning, customer focus, and flexibility

Qualifications

·      Five years of experience in elementary teaching in Missouri and/or Illinois or experience in instructional coaching preferred

·       Proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Office, and Outlook

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Individual must be able to:

·       Work in the field (schools and informal education venues) under a wide range of conditions

·       Reviews video content, works on computer screens and printed documents

·       Occasionally drive and/or travel on company business

·       Lift supplies used for trainings – up to 30lbs

Individual is exposed to a typical office setting with computer equipment.
