Nine PBS: Engagement Coordinator

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Learning and Engagement, this part-time position will leverage the Community Engagement Handbook, local and national workforce reports, and relationships with Nine PBS’s Pathways to Work partner network to better understand the experience of job seekers navigating the St. Louis workforce development ecosystem.

About Pathways to Work: Built upon work that began in 2011, Pathways to Work is Nine PBS’s initiative to increase awareness and positive perceptions of high-demand skilled careers – those career pathways that require some education or training beyond high school, but not a four-year degree to enter. Pathways to Work Partners have expressed the need for upskilling and reskilling of our regional workforce. Nine PBS works in collaboration with trusted community partners to inform our work, helping us understand opportunities and challenges that people in our community face. The outcomes of the initiative have been shaped by two of the greatest challenges our workforce partners face: diversifying talent pipelines and increasing awareness and positive perceptions of high-demand, skilled career pathways.

Job Responsibilities 

·       Work in concert with Pathways to Work Partners to identify people in our region for Community Conversations

·       In coordination with the evaluation team, plan targeted Community Conversations with identified cohorts to understand the individual experience of navigating the St. Louis workforce development ecosystem

·       Identify themes and trends from targeted Community Conversations and partner conversations

·       Gather information and create literature reviews for internal use on regional and national workforce trends

·       Work in tandem with the Nine PBS team to create a Workforce Development Playbook

·       Communicate with supervisors regularly with updates, concerns, and celebrations

·       Take initiative to identify opportunities, innovative approaches and ways to advance projects within this position’s scope of work

·       Maintain working knowledge of public media’s role in our region

·       Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

·       Familiarity with the St. Louis Region workforce landscape

·       Ability to identify key takeaways from conversations and communicate them back to the team

·       Effective experience in working with diverse populations and implementing communications and change strategies that are effective and culturally sensitive

·       Strong writing skills – specifically formal/report writing

·       Proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Outlook

·       Strong organizational and project planning skills

·       Ability to prioritize, work independently, under pressure, meet deadlines, and take direction

·       Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule

·       Proven ability to handle public and internal interactions with diplomacy and tact without additional supervision

·       Must present a professional manner and appearance

·       Key soft skill competencies include: receptive, people-orientated, versatility, collaborative, resourceful, continuous learning, customer focus, and flexibility

Qualifications

·      Experience working with diverse populations required

·      Experience in the workforce ecosystem in the St. Louis Region preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Individual must be able to:

·       Work in the field (post-secondary and training venues) under a wide range of climate conditions

·       Work on computer screens and printed documents

·       Occasionally drive and/or travel on company business

Individual is exposed to a typical office setting with computer equipment.
