Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri

The Director of Camping Services is accountable for all camp-related programs and Council-owned camp properties. The Director has a priority focus on increasing utilization of Council properties and increased participation in camp programs by our membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Designs, delivers, and evaluates camp programs that meet the needs and interest of our membership, and ensures their delivery in a safe and quality manner
  • Remains current on local and national trends with the outdoor experience
  • Seeks and analyzes input from girls, families, staff and other stakeholders regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of the program; makes program adjustments accordingly
  • Directs plans for the full utilization of camp properties
  • Oversees financial management for all cost centers related to the camping department including properties and programs through budget development and monitoring
  • Prepares and submits items for the capital budget in accordance with the need and
    the long-range property plan. Oversees the expense of these funds and completion
    of approved projects
  •  Maintains current inventory of all land, building, equipment, program supplies and other physical assets of camp related programs and properties
  • Ensures Council compliance with local, state, federal and organizational (GSUSA, Council and American Camp Association) guidelines related to outdoor program facilities
  • Designs and implements a marketing plan to increase camper attendance and camp usage
  • Marketing plan will include various forms of media and promotion, and will be developed in partnership with other departments
  • Ensures Human Resource practices are in place to recruit and retain seasonal, intermittent, and year-round staff
  • Oversight for the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff
  • Recruit staff based on camper enrollment and program requirements
  • Manages property development and maintenance needs to ensure stewardship of current resources and identification of future needs
  • Assesses property and maintenance needs, at minimum annually
  • Coordinates annual and long-term property plan
  • Assists with short and long-range operational and capital improvement plans
  • Supports organizational diversity and fund-development goals of the organization
  • Works to advance the mission of Girl Scouts and is a collaborative member of the Program and Leadership Teams.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Positions directly reporting to this position are:

  • Senior Manager, Resident Camp and Adventure
  • Senior Manager, Troop, Day, and Adventure
  • Senior Camp Rangers (3)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.     Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience

2.     Minimum of five (5) years experience in camp operations and facilities management

3.     Demonstrated budgetary experience

4.     Strong human relations skills and ability to build good staff and volunteer relationships

5.     Previous supervisory experience, including ability to assign and prioritize work assignments

6.     Demonstrated ability in team management and building

7.     Knowledge of Girl Scout program, including local and national policies and standards as well as Council procedures and structures highly desirable

8.     Effective written and verbal communication skills

9.     Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

10.  Flexibility and adaptability related to working with employees with different work schedule arrangements

11.  Day/weekends/evening availability throughout Resident Camp season and other times throughout the camp season

12.  Belief in the Girl Scout Mission

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

If your position requires that you drive an average of one (1) day per week or more, you must possess a valid state driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
