Community Development Coordinator

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Community Development Coordinator is a full-time position at NCHI, and he or she will report directly to the NCHI President. The coordinator will be responsible for leading the implementation of several key objectives of the NCHI strategic plan including managing the “Make it Home” lease-purchase program, coordinating supportive services for tenants, engaging and empowering community residents in neighborhood change, assisting with the marketing and fundraising activities of the organization, and collaborating with partner organizations to further develop community programs.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities will include:

▪          Project Management: Lead the management and implementation of the “Make it Home” lease-purchase program. This role involves several components including:

o   Serve as a liaison between NCHI, residents, financial institutions, resource providers, etc.

o   Support residents in achieving their long-term financial and home ownership goals

o   Ensure that program outcomes, reporting requirements, and goals are met

o   Work with the management company and contractors to coordinate pre-sale home repairs

▪          Community Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison from NCHI tenants to the organization, the property management company, and supportive services. Coordinate use of NCHI office and new 2501 N. Sarah community space. Participate as a leader within the Ville Collaborative. Connect residents with opportunities to volunteer with NCHI and other neighborhood organizations.

▪          Communications/Collaboration: Increase communication within and beyond the community – via one-on-ones, meetings, mail, email, social media, etc. Collaborate with partner organizations (The Ville Collaborative, Community Builders Network 4theville, etc.) to support the development of neighborhood initiatives, including beautification, home repair, earned income opportunities, educational initiatives, and more.

▪          Marketing and Fund Development. Assist President in providing support to organize and implement the goals of the Marketing and Fundraising committee. Work with the President and Fundraising & Marketing Committee to reach organizational fundraising goals – including some grant writing and fundraising-related tasks.

▪          Other: Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

●        Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree Preferred

●        Experience taking a leadership role on projects and/or programs

●        Experience in, and passion for, community organizing and resident engagement

●        Knowledge of real estate practices, social work, non-profit management a plus

●        Ability to work independently, set priorities, and follow tasks through to completion – even in the face of challenges

●        Ability to engage with a diverse range of people, organizations, businesses, and institutions to build strong relationships

●        Ability to navigate a variety of different personalities, backgrounds, and communication styles

●        Ability to multi-task, work as a self-starter, and solve problems creatively

●        Strong verbal communication skills – including the ability to listen attentively, demonstrate empathy and remain open-minded

●        Flexibility

●        Strong written communication skills

●        Strong administrative and office technology skills
