Reports to: Director of Finance and Administration

Summary

The Junior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and contributes to the overall financial performance of Miriam Foundation by following policies and procedures, and providing accurate and timely reporting. The Junior Accountant also ensures best practices by assisting in the development, implementation and completion of accounting policies and procedures, including but not limited to, general ledger accountability, and financial reporting and analysis.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions and prepares accounts, ledgers, schedules and reporting systems (including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, investments, contracts, donations and debt).
  • Prepare the monthly reconciliation of accounts and determine the accuracy of balances, figures, calculations posting, etc., investigate, reconcile and resolve discrepancies, report on variances.
  • Responsible for administration of billing and providing customer support to Miriam Learning Center
  • Research, analyze and apply accounting guidance to ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly organization and divisional financials for Program Directors, Finance Committee and Board of Directors by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information using QuickBooks.
  • Correspond with Program Directors to ensure proper accounting across all departments.
  • Work with Director of Finance and Administration to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit and assist with completion of 990, periodic audits by external auditors, and annual surveys.
  • Manage and forecast cash flow as necessary.
  • Work with Program Directors to prepare and assist with the annual budgeting process.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls within the accounting function; document business processes and policies.
  • Assist in answering constituent financial inquiries.
  • Assist in the administration of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, onboarding, and insurance/benefits.
  • Provide support to other members of the finance and administration department as needed.
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.

Required Education/License/Certification(s) and Experience

  • 2-3 years of accounting experience and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Financial and accounting expertise, including knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with QuickBooks, Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe.
  • General knowledge of non-profit accounting principles preferred.
  • Experience in preparation of financial reports, profit and loss statements, and financial records.
  • Must be extremely reliable and trustworthy, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Possesses strong, detailed analytical skills, and has the ability to apply theses skills to solve problems, resolve issues and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing at all management levels.
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline environment.
  • Self-starter, quick study and ability to multi-task on a regular basis with minimal daily direction.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work well with staff, parents, students, and volunteers.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position
  • Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility
