Campbell House Museum

Organization Overview

The Campbell House Museum is a historic house museum located in downtown St. Louis.  Built in 1851, the Campbell House was the home of renowned fur trader and entrepreneur Robert Campbell and his family from 1854 until 1938. The museum contains hundreds of original Campbell possessions including furniture, paintings, clothing, letters, carriages. Position Overview

The weekend manager is a critical part the Museum’s operations and lives on-site. The position is part-time, requiring approximately 12-13 hours of work per week.  The weekend manager works with volunteers and give tours to the public.  The desired candidate will have strong interpersonal skills in interacting with a museum staff, volunteers, donors and enjoys interaction with the public. Experience in a museum setting is ideal.  This position reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • supervise Campbell House Museum operations on all weekends, including opening and closing of the Museum, assisting volunteers, managing the flow of Museum visitors, giving tours, recording of daily admissions (the Weekend Manager is expected to be present in the Museum during the hours of 9:50 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on all Saturdays and 11:50 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on all Sundays)
  • during weekend hours wear appropriate business casual dress (no jeans, t-shirts, shorts or short skirts) and name badge
  • complete a minimum 1 (one) hour of yard maintenance each week, including the regular cutting of the Campbell House Museum lawn, garden watering and litter control.
  • promptly report all maintenance issues regarding the Campbell House buildings or yard to the Executive Director
  • such other duties as the Executive Director may direct


  • full use of the studio apartment in the carriage house, including the cost of all utilities (electric, gas, internet, water, etc.)—the apartment is for the use of the Weekend Manager only, no roommates and no pets are allowed. (valued at $1,100 per month). Apartment includes laundry facilities.
  • full use of one parking space on the Museum’s lot
