Position Summary
The Senior Associate Director of Regional and Special Events reports to the Director of Regional and Special Events. The role of the Senior Associate Director is to plan and implement key events designed to cultivate, maintain and strengthen alumni, parent and friend ties to the University. The Senior Associate Director will also oversee the support staff team.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement regional events and activities for at least 1 Tier 1 regional city. This includes annual dinners, salons hosted by key donors and prospects, regional cabinet and committee meetings and special events. Work closely with regional directors to ensure that attendance targets are met.
  • Manage and oversee the support staff team (3-5 team members) for Regional & Special Events. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, training, and measuring the performance of all members of support staff.
  • Provide staff support for other regional and special event activities. This includes but is not limited to regional Chancellor events in Tier 1 cities, building dedications, groundbreakings, commencement, and others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in event planning and management.
  • Prior experience in development or advancement or related field.
  • Prior experience in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Prefer experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, FileMaker Pro) and standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability managing high-end events with VIP level guests.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at every level of an organization, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to command respect and confidence of senior administrators and faculty.
  • Excellent judgment, a strong work ethic and the ability to think strategically.
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong proofing skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Discretion: ability to handle highly confidential materials appropriately.
  • Diplomacy and the ability to work in high-pressure situations.
  • Flexibility in a fast-paced and complex organizational environment.
  • Ability to remain focused on multiple priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University.
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and FileMaker Pro.
  • Desire to be a part of the Washington University community and champion the values of the institution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three to five years of related experience.

Salary Range
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
