Miriam School and Learning Center

The Community Development Specialist is an integral member of the Development team, responsible for managing a comprehensive fundraising program targeted at mid-level and entry-level donors, and for overseeing various engagement initiatives including alumni relations, young professional groups, and major events. This role requires a dynamic individual who excels at networking, event management, and community engagement to further Miriam’s mission.

QUALIFICATIONS:

– Bachelor’s degree
– Minimum of three years of related experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in fundraising or community engagement.
– Proficiency with MS Office Suite
– Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT or other CRM (donor database)
– Strong networking skills and experience in community relations

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Individual Giving and Fundraising

– Manage and execute the Annual Fund Campaign, including timeline, strategies, appeal materials, and stewardship.
– Oversee online giving campaigns such as Giving Tuesday, Give STL Day, and 24-Hour Giving Day, in collaboration with the Digital Marketing Specialist.
– Cultivate and sustain relationships with mid-level and entry-level donors. Enter notes on contacts and visits in the database.
– Develop and manage a monthly giving program, including communications and campaigns.
– Coordinate and track the Annual Fund campaign, ensuring timely execution and donor engagement.

Alumni and Community Engagement

– Develop and manage an alumni program, including communications and outreach activities to keep alumni engaged and informed.
– Lead the Miriam Young Professionals group, guiding them in planning and executing engagement activities.
– Serve as the liaison between the Development Department and the Parents Associations at Miriam Schools.
– Oversee and expand the 24-Hour Online Giving Challenge, fostering increased participation and engagement.

Events Management

– Plan and coordinate all development-related events, including the annual Gala, Tuesday Talk & Tours, and other fundraising events.
– Collaborate with volunteers and staff to ensure successful event execution. Maintain guest and donation records, and generate acknowledgements with the assistance of the Database & Operations Administrator.
– Manage sponsorships and the annual sponsorship campaign, securing funding and building relationships with sponsors.

Networking and Community Involvement

– Actively participate in networking groups, including the chamber of commerce and other community organizations, to raise the profile of Miriam School and Learning Center and engage potential supporters.
– Conduct regular tours of the Miriam campuses to engage and inform the community, prospective donors, and other stakeholders.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

– Full-time position, 40 hours per week
– Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, with some occasional evening and weekend events.
– This job operates in a professional office environment.
– This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

– Ability to travel between various Miriam locations.
– Satisfactory outcome of background check and reference checks.
