The T Outreach Associate

Power4STL – A Community of Health

The T

5874 Delmar Blvd St. Louis, MO 63112 •  • 314-474-5707

Power4STL is a community of health working to reduce the impact of trauma in the St. Louis region. This includes three core programs: The T, for people at risk for overdose,, the BRIC, for people who have experienced bullet injury, and community engagement, focusing on education and therapeutic efforts to reduce the impact of trauma. Through these programs, Power4STL provides public health education, community engagement, self-care resources, harm reduction, and support, as well as direct clinical care for acute and chronic trauma. Power4STL team members include health professionals, community health workers, advocates, peers, and community members with lived experience in trauma and recovery.

Our care is co-located, meaning that we provide medical, spiritual, and occupational support in the same space, recognizing our patients as whole people. With this model,  we approach the issues of “gun violence” and “drug use” in the context of what they truly are: acute and chronic expressions of trauma. Our Black-led, queer-inclusive collaborative approach promotes radical generosity, building trust, low barrier access, and whole person care. Through this approach, Power4STL is bridging the gaps in institution-based support models which are so often re-traumatizing to those experiencing the pain of injury and chronic loss.

The T

The T, which stands for trauma, is a holistic harm reduction program. We recognize that drug use is often a response to trauma, and that Black bodies in the US carry a collective, historic, and present burden of trauma within the body. Responding to this burden requires a commitment to physical, social, and spiritual wholeness that conventional treatments do not prioritize. The T meets people who use drugs where they are, and we invite them to take a step into their health and wellbeing. We do this through a mobile engagement strategy–The T on Wheels aka “TWheels” –as well as an accessible, open-door policy to the clinical and self-care services at the brick and mortar building.  This center focuses on safe use, overdose prevention and reversal, wound care, infection management and prevention, and holistic self-directed methods for gaining control of chaotic opioid use. We also provide navigation to both treatment and recovery services. The T collaborates with numerous community partners, including the Wellston Loop CDC, LIV Recovery, Preferred Family Care, Family Care Center, EPICC, Places for People, St. Patrick’s Center, Living With Purpose, St. John’s UCC, and MONet.
