DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Director of Finance provides leads all financial activities of the overall organization including, but not limited to: budgeting, forecasting, reporting and compliance. This position is responsible for maximizing the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. The Director of Finance is accountable for the accounting operations of the organization, to include the production of periodic financial reports for management, Board of Directors and external stakeholders, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, oversight of payroll processing with 3rd party provider, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. This position directly reports to the Executive Director.

This position is a Full-Time/Exempt classified position, consisting of  37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.       Summarizes, forecasts, advises, and recommends to Executive Director, Planning & Development Committee and Board of Directors, with respect to the organization’s business activity and financial position in areas such as revenue, expenses and net assets, technology (IT), and the overall operation of the organization.

2.       Acts as Risk Manager of the organization and advises management on key elements of the company’s risk profile, ensures internal controls, implements best practices and maintains insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.

3.       Arranges for external financial audit as well as audits of the 401k and worker’s compensation programs. Prepare necessary reports and execute the federal and state requirements as well as the lawful and ethical standards required to maintain the organization’s nonprofit 501(c)(3) status.

4.       Participates in formulating and administering the organization’s policies and developing long range goals and objectives in accordance with the organization’s financial goals. Annually, facilitates the organization’s budget development process.

5.       Ensures efficient transaction processing systems, debt financing, cash balances and maintains banking relationships. Advises on capital acquisition and disposition decisions as well as matters of resource allocation

6.       Supervises the Accounting and IT Departments. Responsible for the supervision of the Department by either direct or indirect means. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the agency’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance required (Master’s/CPA preferred). Five years supervisory experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistics.

REASONING:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established policies and procedural guidelines.
