Position Title:            Development Specialist

Responsible To:       Senior Advancement Manager

Salary Range:            $24.00/hour to $28.84/hour

Position Type:           Full time, hourly, non-exempt, hybrid

Position Summary

The Development Specialist plays a significant and supportive role in the implementation of fundraising plans and activities that align with the agency’s strategic direction. Duties include building internal and external relationships, maintaining communications with donors and other constituents, and collaborating within the Advancement team to effectively execute the development program and fundraising events. The Development Specialist provides organization and support to the Advancement team. They advance donor development by administering a database of potential, current, and past donors; producing customized lists and reports; recording and acknowledging all donor activity; and participating in all donor acquisition, development, and retention activities and programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Accountabilities

·         Actively participates in the execution of all fundraising activities and programs.

·         Follows a comprehensive annual fund campaign with targeted solicitations, goals, and activities in collaboration with the Advancement team.

·         Incorporates current data to enhance and strengthen fundraising programs and activities.

·         Prepares and presents reports on the annual fund performance, metrics, and statistics.

·         Supports annual giving days and agency events.

·         Works directly with the Senior Advancement Manager to support fundraising initiatives.

·         Collaborates with the Finance Department team to ensure accurate and effective fundraising revenue and expense recording, tracking, and reporting.

·         Meets with a small portfolio of prospects, donors, and constituents to steward, cultivate, and solicit for sustained and increased support.

·         Provides daily donor database input and executes the donor acknowledgment process.

·         Assists with monthly reconciliation with the Business Office.

·         Meets Advancement Team goals – both individual and department targets and metrics

·         Additional duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Minimum Education:

·         Associate’s degree in business, accounting, marketing, social work, or related field.

Minimum Experience:

·         1-2 year’s experience in nonprofit related experience, fundraising, or advancement.

Licenses/Certifications:

·         Not applicable

Preferred Education & Experience:

·         Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, or related field

·         2-3 years of development and advancement experience, including database administration

·         eTapestry, Constant Contact, and Buddy Press experience preferred.

·         Experience with or understanding of fundraising and development processes is ideal.

Work Conditions and Environment

·         This position works at Provident’s St. Louis City Location (2650 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO  63103), and requires occasional attendance at community events.

·         Reliable transportation required.

·         Occasional weekend or evening activities required.

·         Opportunity for hybrid/remote up to 40% of the time

·         Job may include sitting for extended periods of time, making phone calls, needing to lift supplies up to 20 lbs, navigating community-based settings independently, and driving to off-site locations or between offices, including day and evening times.

Other Skills Required

·         Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility, achieve independent goals, and thrive in a team environment to meet agency goals.

·         Commitment to maintaining client and donor confidentiality, including knowledge of HIPAA requirements.

·         Strong skills using and navigating computers and software programs. Ability to navigate computer, phone, fundraising software, Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), fundraising software, and other information technology systems independently. eTapestry, Constant Contact, and Buddy Press experience preferred.

·         This position requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability as it involves various fundraising activities.

·         Serve as a representative of Provident, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with Provident team members, clients, grantors, funders, auditors, and members of the general public.

·         Ability to foster a positive and inclusive work culture with peers and an inclusive treatment environment for clients.
