St. Joseph Housing Initiative
St. Joseph Housing Initiative (SJHI) was born out of a desire to acknowledge, address and combat systemic and racial inequities, specifically in the housing market.
We are here to serve and partner with existing residents and new neighbors as well as members of the community who deserve the opportunity to build equity through home ownership. Our goal is simple: to invest in families by helping them build stronger financial security. Brick by brick, hand in hand, we are building stronger homes and stable neighborhoods to foster a more vibrant and humane St. Louis.
We are seeking a Director of Development to help us fulfill the mission of SJHI. This position will report to the Executive Director.
This well networked partner will plan, guide, and evaluate the development efforts of the organization. The Director of Development is charged with ensuring that the overall approach to fundraising is organized and effective, maximizing on results. The ideal person will foster positive relationships with donors and community members to engender support for SJHI. This role includes the direction and strategic organization of SJHI’s signature Raise the Roof event as well as any other events in the future. RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plans the overall development program and calendar in keeping with the needs of the organization, and budget objectives.
2. Seeks out new ideas and strategies and anticipates future opportunities to consistently stay ahead of the curve.
3. Ensures effective work practices in financial accounting and reconciliation, database management, gift recording, donor acknowledgement and stewardship.
4. Maintains records on current and prospective donors in Kindful.
5. Creates and maintains SJHI’s identity, brand, messaging and voice.
6. Identifies potential revenue generating opportunities including the preparation and submission of grant applications for corporate, private, and public funding entities.
7. Manages the generation of marketing and communication materials as it relates to fundraising activities.
8. Creates and delivers on individual stewardship plans for donors (annual and major) that include regular updates about the impact of their gift, polished publications and marketing materials, and genuine personal contact.
9. Oversees and acts as the main coordinator of the signature fundraising event, Raise the Roof.
10. Assists in obtaining new volunteers.
11. Completes reports and evaluations for donors and financial grants.
12. Plans and implements donor cultivation events.
13. Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Key Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 5+ years in a fundraising or development capacity.
• Proven track record of creating, cultivating and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and community partners.
• Thorough experience in grant writing.
• Creative thinker who stays abreast of evolving trends in fundraising
• Experience in managing and directing medium-to-large scale events.
• Ability to manage and oversee budgets.
• Energetic, self-starter and resourceful problem solver.
• High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple activities to deadline.
• Proven track record of professionalism in all interactions.
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Set schedule established but event management may require time flexibility.
