Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Camping Programs oversees and manages all aspects of program delivery for an assigned camp pathway, including developing an integrated program delivery plan, and hiring and supervising camp staff. The position works to sustain and grow Girl Scout participation in the camps.
This Senior Manager, Camping Programs role oversees the day camp programs throughout the Council’s 28-County jurisdiction, troop camp events, and the Camp Program Specialist staff, who facilitate programming at the Council’s three camp properties in Pevely, Troy, and Labadie, MO.
At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, most of our roles work in a hybrid capacity (in office, remote, and/or in the field). Details will be provided during the interview process.

The position is full-time with a competitive starting salary at $55,740 annually.

Essential Job Duties
- Design, develop, and implement assigned camp program(s), ensuring that program components are consistent with the national curricula and grade level, and that content meets the needs, interests, and preferences of current and prospective camp participants.
- Develop and deliver camp trainings to ensure that adults are trained and prepared to lead campers.
- Maintain camp operations to a level that meet the American Camp Association standards for accreditation.
- Hire, supervise, train, and manage assigned staff and volunteers, ensuring that each person is fully trained and certified to carry out their role safely.
- Provide a high level of support for all volunteers.
- Ensure overall compliance with any applicable internal policies, guidelines, and funding source regulations.
- Collaborate as necessary with other departments to optimize the success of events and activities.
- Establish the annual department budget and manage the day-to-day departmental expenses, reporting and explaining material variances.
- Serve as a collaborative team member, working to advance the mission of Girl Scouts.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Outdoor Education, Project Management, a related field or equivalent experience is required.
- Three (3) years of camp operations experience.
- Red Cross First/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain such within 6 months of employment.
- Certification in some or all of the following activities is required:
- Lifeguard certification, LGI certification, Archery certification, SCS/BWR certification, Leadership certification, Target sports certification.
- Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of camp operations and American Camp Association accreditation process and standards, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to create, develop, and implement camp program and resources.
- Financial knowledge and the ability to manage budgets.
- Strong recruiting skills.
- Strong people management and leadership skills, with good active listening skills and the ability to effectively motivate people.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers, and to represent the organization in a professional manner.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, under limited direction, exercising judgment and initiative in making decisions within Council operations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time operating a computer, including navigating websites, software platforms, spreadsheets and both electronic and paper documents.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier, and computer printer.
Occasionally positions self to maintain files in file cabinets.
May need to move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs.
The ability to observe details at close range and at a distance.
Is required to drive/ operate an automobile.
Work Environment
Work is sometimes performed in an indoor professional office environment with moderate noise levels.
Frequently required to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dirt, and dust. May be exposed to oils and bodily fluid
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct reporting responsibilities.
