GRO Health Center
The Community Engagement Manager is a part-time position (20 – 25 hours/week) responsible for developing and implementing outreach strategies that connect our programs with the local community. This role will build awareness of our mission, increase public participation with our programs, and strengthen partnerships with diverse stakeholders to advance our goals.
Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach & Education (40%)
• Develop and coordinate public outreach events, workshops, and educational programs that highlight sustainability issues and solutions
• Create engaging content for newsletters, brochures, digital media and educational materials that communicate our engagement strategy and messaging
• Represent the organization at community events, partner meetings, and local gatherings
• Conduct presentations to community groups, schools, and local organizations about our sustainability initiatives
Program Management (25%)
• Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for projects, monitoring activities, and educational events
• Develop a community recognition program to acknowledge sustainability contributions
• Track engagement initiatives and impact for reporting and development
Partnership Development (20%)
• Identify and cultivate relationships with community organizations, local businesses, schools, and government agencies
• Collaborate with partners on joint projects that advance shared conservation goals
• Attend relevant coalition meetings and participate in community networks
Communications & Social Media (15%)
• Manage the organization’s social media presence and website content
• Develop monthly newsletters and regular updates for constituents
• Work with local media to secure coverage of conservation district programs and events
• Create compelling storytelling that highlights conservation successes and community impact
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, education, environmental science finance, marketing, natural resources, or related fields
3+ years of experience in community outreach, development, education, program management related field
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
Strong writing abilities and experience creating outreach materials
Demonstrated ability to engage diverse audiences
Proficiency with social media and/or multimedia platforms and basic content creation tools
Passion for, community engagement, conservation and environmental stewardship
Reliable transportation for traveling to events throughout the region
Preferred
Masters degree in business administration, political science, public policy, social work
Knowledge of local issues and initiatives in community development, conservation, and urban agriculture
Experience working with volunteers or coordinating community programs
Grant writing or fundraising experience
Graphic design skills
Experience with Canva, WordPress or similar content management systems
Familiarity with the local community and established relationships with potential partners
Working Conditions
Part-time, 20 – 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling
Some evening and weekend work required for community events
Combination of office work and field activities
Some physical activity required, including walking on uneven terrain during field events
Position may involve lifting up to 30 pounds of educational materials or event supplies
