ROI Search Partners is conducting a search to find the next CFO of the National Council of the United States, Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Please note, this role is onsite in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the National Council of the United States, Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Together they partner with the National President, and Treasurer to set the financial policies and direction of the National Council. Additionally, the CFO works with the leadership of the National Council subsidiaries, Disaster Services Corporation-SVdP USA, SVdP National Stores and SVdP National Foundation in a financial leadership capacity. This entails:
• Acting as an active participant in, and driver of, SVdP’s overall financial strategy.
• The primary day-to-day responsibilities are for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of SVdP’s National Council. This includes direct responsibility for accounting, investing, analysis, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing, compliance, risk management, and financing activities.
• Leading a talented team of accounting and financial professional to prepare, monitor and communicate the financial health of SVdP and ensure continued long-term financial stability.
Strategic Leadership Responsibilities:
– Participating in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team.
– Partnering with the CEO, President of the Board, Treasurer, Board of Directors and other members of the leadership team in the achievement of strategic goals through the development and presentation of the detailed analysis of financial data.
– Overseeing long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.
– Engaging the Board’s finance, investment, and audit committees around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.
– Acting as a resource available to Regional Vice Presidents in assessing a council’s fiscal integrity and other financial matters that arise from time-to-time.
Operational Financial Management Responsibilities:
– Directing the development of the annual budget with input from key staff members and subject matter experts for review and approval by the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
– Overseeing budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.
– Collaborating with other staff, stakeholders and leaders to provide financial reporting elements of produced materials and reports which communicate financial health, program impact and efficiency metrics.
– Overseeing the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding operations to the organization’s Board of Directors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
– Collaborate with the accounting/finance team in the preparation, analysis and reporting of monthly financial statements of National Council, National Stores and National Foundation.
– Managing cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
– Providing oversight of payroll processing and related compliance and reporting.
– Obtaining and maintaining all required licenses for the National Council, National Stores and National Foundation.
– Leading International Twinning and International Grant Making Policy activities and maintaining compliance with IRS and U.S. Department of Treasury rules and regulations.
– Evaluating and providing oversight for all benefit negotiations to provide the most competitive packages for employees of the organization.
– Evaluate and ensure risk management activities that include, but are not limited to insurance coverage, receivables, payables, investment holdings, cash flow management.
– Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws including 501(c)3 issues and rules for financial and tax reporting.
– Development of policies, procedures and systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and judicially monitor the use of all funds.
– Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, Finance, Investment and Audit Committees via Zoom; National Annual Assembly, Budget meeting in person as well as any other meetings that may be called by the President and CEO from time-to-time.

– Ensure the credibility of the accounting/finance team through the demonstration of personal and professional ethics and the continuous improvement of skills and tools.
Key Competencies of the Position:
– BS in Accounting or Finance, a current CPA license required, an MBA highly desirable; and any credentials relating to the profession.
– 15+ years in progressively responsible fiscal management leadership roles, preferably in a non-profit organization.
– Seasoned and mature leader with broad experience in managing accounting, finance, auditing, gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior management; an effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills; and a demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission is essential.
– High level of integrity and dependability with a keen sense of urgency and results orientated.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
– Proficiency in Microsoft Suite software, current financial accounting systems, data analytics and automation tools.
– Knowledge of not-for-profit organization operations and Catholic Church social teachings.
– Firsthand experience and familiarity with banking, investment and accounting procedures.
Scope/Complexity:
– The position has a distinct focus on financial administration within the overall office management responsibility.
– The individual is expected to respond to, and provide support to, the Chief Executive Officer, National Council Members, Board Treasurer, Board President, and other Board and work as a team with other internal leadership including the Chief Advancement Officer, Chief Information Officer and Director of Operations.
– The ability to develop procedures and processes for the effective operation of the National Council Office and all Subsidiary operations.
Accountability:
– Supports the Rule, Mission and By-Laws of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
– Adheres to policies and procedures of the Society and all pertinent legal regulations.
– Prepares and accomplishes annual performance and program objectives.
Participate in annual self-evaluation and performance review.
