St. Louis County Library is hiring a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to join its senior leadership team.

This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned operational leader to help steward one of the most dynamic public library systems in the country. The CAO will oversee several core administrative departments including Facilities, New Construction, IT, HR, and Security. This leader will play a critical role in strengthening internal systems, improving cross-department coordination, and supporting the Library’s continued growth.

Ideal candidates will bring 5 to 10 years of experience managing multiple teams or functions within a complex, mission-driven organization such as a university, healthcare system, large nonprofit, or government agency. Strong organization, sound judgment, and a collaborative leadership style are essential. Library experience is not required.

With more than 600 employees, 20 branches, and a $70 million annual budget, St. Louis County Library serves nearly one million community members each year and was recently awarded the 2025 Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize. The CAO will join a recognized leader in literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement and help shape its future.
