Missouri Health Care for All

Missouri Health Care for All, a non-partisan, faith and community based grassroots movement committed to securing access to affordable, high-quality health care for all Missourians, is seeking a full-time Story Bank Organizer.

About the Organization: Missouri Health Care for All was founded on the principle that every Missourian should have access to quality affordable health care. We work with faith communities, community groups, service providers, people who need health care, and grassroots supporters statewide to advocate for these principles. We work to defend current health care programs and funding and to advance policies that improve access to care.

Job Description: Missouri Health Care for All’s work informs our belief that stories are a critical tool for making change and moving health policy in a positive direction. As the Story Bank Organizer, you will be responsible for leading Missouri Health Care for All’s statewide story bank program, as well as completing goals set forth in story collection. To that end, you will generate leads and collect stories from the public that illustrate the need for health policy improvements, especially protecting, improving, and expanding Medicaid. You will also be responsible for facilitating story collection throughout the state with fellow organizers.

In addition to the facilitation of the collection of stories, the Story Bank Organizer will be responsible for sharing collected stories. This will include creating written materials, as well as connecting story bank participants to media outlets, elected officials, other staff organizers, and coalition partners.

Location: The Story Bank Organizer will work in Missouri. If based in St. Louis, you will work out of Missouri Health Care for All’s St. Louis office. If based in other locations in the state, you will work from a home office. There will be frequent statewide travel and occasional regional travel (2 trips per month, with more possible depending upon need). Some trips will require an overnight stay. Candidates must have a valid driver’s’ license and reliable transportation.

Reporting and Staffing Structure: The Story Bank Organizer will report directly to Missouri Health Care for All’s Organizing Director, based in St. Louis, MO. Other staff are based in St. Louis, Kansas City, Jefferson County, Joplin, and Springfield.

Required Activities:

  • Lead Missouri Health Care for All’s statewide story bank program.
  • Amplify organizing and advocacy efforts through the strategic deployment of health care stories in various campaigns and efforts across the organization.
  • Improve and implement program structure to identify people with personal stories. Sources will include partner organizations, outreach events, phone calls, and other means.
  • Create and deepen relationships with organizations to aid in the identification of Story Bank participants.
  • Setup and conduct interviews with Missourians with health care stories, especially Missourians who are uninsured or who use Medicaid.
  • Maintain database of collected stories for storage and retrieval.
  • Facilitate and support story collection with MHCFA’s staff of statewide organizers.
  • Create written materials, including story summaries, social media posts, and a storybook.
  • Other duties as assigned.
