Agency Summary
Food Outreach is the only St. Louis area organization and non-profit whose mission is to provide nutritional support to enhance the quality of life of men, women, and children living with HIV or cancer. Food Outreach provides a combination of nutritionally supportive services through Medically Tailored Meals and groceries, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and nutrition education.
Team Compensation

Position Overview
The Registered Dietitian at Food Outreach provides individualized nutrition counseling and group education to clients and caregivers, focusing on individuals living with HIV/AIDS and cancer. This full-time, in-person, exempt position reports to the Director of Nutrition and Programs and collaborates closely with another RD, the Client Services Manager, Chefs, and program and development staff.
This role requires a strong foundation in clinical nutrition, exceptional communication skills, cultural competence, and the ability to think creatively and compassionately to support diverse client needs.
Essential Functions
- Manage a client caseload from referral through program graduation, offering disease-specific nutrition counseling.
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments aligned with Missouri and Illinois standards for Medical Nutrition Therapy.
- Maintain accurate, timely client documentation using Healthie and Access, including assessments, interactions, surveys, and program milestones.
- Develop and deliver nutrition and culinary education through individual sessions, group classes, phone calls, and culturally relevant written materials.
- Conduct trainings for staff, volunteers, and community partners on nutrition.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to integrate dietary support into client care plans.
- Manage Ensure inventory and ensure compliance with food safety standards (HAACP, ServSafe).
- Provide weekly client data reports to program leadership.
- Conduct required assessments (e.g., SLAAA ADLs, AgingIS) and support annual client satisfaction surveys.
- Maintain up-to-date demographic and program information in Access.
- Represent Food Outreach on the St. Louis HIV/AIDS Planning Council and report updates to the Director of Nutrition and Programs.
- Build partnerships with community organizations to enhance coordinated care for clients.
- Participate in outreach efforts, events, and inter-agency meetings.
- Supervise and mentor dietetic interns as assigned, supporting professional development and program integration.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition, especially for individuals with HIV/AIDS and cancer.
- Proficient in the Nutrition Care Process and ADIME charting, or willing to learn.
- Skilled in developing and implementing evidence-based nutrition education programs.
- Experience creating tools to assess client needs and measure program impact.
- Excellent counseling, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Culturally responsive and able to adapt content to diverse learning styles.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable using technology, including Microsoft Access, Healthie, SCOUT, JotForms, and related platforms.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
- Understanding of research methods and evaluation techniques for continuous program improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in community nutrition or health-related programs, with an emphasis on chronic illness management.
- Active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Current licensure in both Missouri and Illinois.
The following qualifications are preferred for the position of Registered Dietitian:
- Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed to support organizational goals.
- Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel for client visits, community meetings, and professional conferences.
- Valid driver’s license required and must be maintained.
Line of Authority
This position reports to the Director of Nutrition and Programs.
