Job Title: Development Associate

Position Summary

The Development Associate plays a key role in supporting the fundraising and partnership-building efforts of The Academy of Science – St. Louis. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about our mission and has familiarity with fundraising best practices. The Development Associate’s primary role is to help achieve The Academy of Science’s fundraising goals by providing exceptional stewardship to donors, overseeing the management of the donor database, and supporting The Academy’s marketing and outreach strategy. This role will support donor stewardship and communications, membership management, gift processing, data management, event coordination, and general development operations.

Key Responsibilities

Data Management & Reporting

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of constituent data
  • Generate donor reports and assist with data analysis for campaigns
  • Support prospect research efforts
  • Clean up and update constituent data as necessary

Event Support

  • Assist in planning and executing donor and Academy Fellow and Member events
  • Support the planning and delivery of the annual Outstanding Scientists Awards dinner and ceremony
  • Coordinate event logistics, RSVPs, and follow-ups for these events
  • Prepare materials such as name tags, programs, and signage

Donor Stewardship

  • Process gifts and memberships in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the CRM database
  • Support donor stewardship efforts, including mailings, emails, and phone outreach
  • Draft donor correspondence and fundraising appeals

Communications Support

  • Collaborate on fundraising communication, including newsletters, social media content, and annual reports
  • Communicate with Academy of Science Fellows and Members
  • Help maintain fundraising materials and digital assets
  • Support grant application tracking and submissions as needed

Administrative Tasks

  • Help manage calendars, schedule donor meetings, and prepare agendas
  • Track deadlines and ensure timely submission of reports and acknowledgments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2–3 years of experience in fundraising/development or nonprofit administration
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working with donor databases (e.g., Bloomerang, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Canva
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Passion for the mission and 10-year impact goals of The Academy of Science

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with donor CRM platforms and fundraising tools
  • Prior experience supporting events or campaigns
  • Familiarity with grant processes and donor prospecting

Graphic design or social media skills are a plus
