St. Louis HELP (STL HELP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing community members with donated medical equipment, promoting independence, health, and environmental responsibility. Guided by its vision of “a healthier community where access to essential medical equipment restores independence, fosters dignity, and uplifts every life,” STL HELP collects, refurbishes, and redistributes durable medical equipment at no cost to individuals and families throughout the St. Louis region.
Rooted in values of Hope & Healing, Equity, Love of Neighbor, and Purposeful Stewardship, STL HELP helps people live safely, heal with dignity, and maintain independence – regardless of income, insurance, age, or circumstance. Through community generosity and responsible reuse, STL HELP strengthens lives while reducing environmental waste and advancing sustainable community impact.
Following the recent and unexpected passing of its Executive Director, STL HELP is entering an important period of transition and growth guided by its newly adopted strategic plan.

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and operational leader of STL HELP works with the Board of Directors and reports directly to the Board President. The Executive Director oversees all organizational operations, including strategic leadership, fundraising, financial management, staff leadership, community engagement, and operational effectiveness. The organization currently operates with a staff of six employees and a strong volunteer network.

The next Executive Director will lead implementation of STL HELP’s strategic priorities across four core pillars:

• Community Awareness & Advocacy
• Organizational Strength
• Sustainable Stewardship
• Financial Sustainability

The Executive Director will serve as a visible ambassador for STL HELP while strengthening organizational systems, expanding partnerships and fundraising efforts, and fostering a collaborative, mission-centered culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of the organization’s strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Directors.
• Oversee organizational operations, finances, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
• Lead, support, and develop staff and volunteers while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and service.
• Strengthen fundraising efforts through grants, donor development, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
• Expand public awareness and community engagement across the St. Louis region.
• Support operational improvements related to facilities, technology, logistics, and customer service.
• Ensure high-quality service delivery and responsible stewardship of donated resources.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, emotionally intelligent, and mission-driven leader with demonstrated success in nonprofit leadership, operations, fundraising, and relationship-building.

Preferred qualifications include:

• At least 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, healthcare, community-based, or mission-driven organizations.
• Experience leading teams, managing operations, and supporting organizational growth.
• Demonstrated fundraising and financial management experience.
• Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
• Experience working effectively with Boards, volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders.
• Strategic thinking, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving abilities.
• Passion for community impact and STL HELP’s mission.

Experience related to healthcare access, durable medical equipment, sustainability, logistics, or volunteer-driven organizations is helpful but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $80,000 – $95,000
