Nine Network of Public Media

Experienced Grants Manager Needed

The Nine Network, St. Louis’s PBS-TV affiliate, relies on grant funding to cover a significant part of its operating expenses.  We are seeking a person to manage all aspects of this important function: monitoring and reporting for all current grants; finding and researching new grant-funding sources; drafting highly compelling proposals; and nurturing strong relationships with grantors.

60% of the role involves the administration and management of multiple concurrent grants.  That includes monitoring timelines and budgets, ensuring compliance, generating timely and meaningful reports, and providing informal updates for organizational leaders.  Success here requires outstanding detail-orientation and follow-through and is largely task-oriented.

By contrast, 30% of the role is extraordinarily creative!  The nature of the PBS endeavor guarantees an enormous range in the programs that need funding.  Identifying potentially new and interesting funding partners and recognizing their possible connection to new programming topics requires an unconventional way of thinking.  And then helping them recognize the win/win nature of the partnership requires a combination of customer-service mentality, solid research, clear thinking, and persuasive writing skills.  This part of the job is more conceptual, less structured, and rewarding in a different way.  (The final 10% of the role reflects the team-nature of this station:  Certain annual events require all hands-on deck.)

Requirements:  Previously demonstrated success at grant-writing, managing data, meeting myriad deadlines, finding polite ways to gather necessary information from busy professionals, preparing accurate and timely reports, and working effectively as part of a high-functioning team. Very strong preference for candidates with PBS experience or (next best) with other grant-reliant non-profits.
