St. Louis Holocaust Museum & Learning Center (HMLC)

The St. Louis Holocaust Museum & Learning Center (HMLC) is one of only 22 such museums across the United States. For more than 20 years, the HMLC has been inspiring, training, and educating people of all ages, welcoming more than 30,000 visitors a year. It is currently a department of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.

The St. Louis Holocaust Museum and Learning Center has started the process of raising funds for the renovation and expansion of the HMLC.  The Holocaust Museum and Learning Center seeks a creative, highly motivated professional to serve as its first Development Manager (HMLC) who will be responsible for building immediate and long-term financial support of the HMLC across all museum functions.  In partnership with the Executive Director (HMLC), the Development Manager (HMLC) will have oversight and management of fundraising initiatives for the Holocaust Museum & Learning Center’s programs and services and will serves as a leader on the HMLC team.  This position reports to the Executive Director (HMLC).

Position Accountabilities

  • Develop a Work Plan for the Holocaust Museum & Learning Center.
  • Create and oversee the execution of engagement and development work plan for HMLC.
  • Set development goals and strategies across all functions of HMLC to maximize engagement.
  • Partner with the Development Team of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis to ensure cohesive donor relations.
  • Develop and evaluate strategies for current donor retention and growth.
  • Create engagement, cultivation, and meaningful opportunities for volunteers.
  • Maintain the pipeline of major donors and develop strategies to grow donor prospects.
  • Develop strategy for planned giving and endowments.
  • Identify grant opportunities and prepare applications for funding.
  • Identify and implement strategies for corporate and foundation sponsorships.
  • Identify strategies for the development of museum membership programs.
  • Identify additional revenue strategies to help ensure the growth and sustainability of the HMLC.
  • Develop written proposals and key communication pieces for fundraising events and activities.
  • Oversee accurate fund management and data entry related to HMLC prospect and donor records.
  • Engage in community activities serving as a leadership role model and community representative of the HMLC.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required.  Master’s Degree, preferred.
  • 5 – 7 years plus of development, sales or related experience, familiarity with museum environments preferred.
  • A front line fundraiser with proven track record of donor cultivation and solicitation experience, preferred.
  • Experience with multiple funding sources, such as: grants, sponsorships, and membership programs.
  • Proven ability to manage major donors, community giving, and corporate gifts.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills and the ability to network to develop donor prospects.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tell compelling stories to inspire donors.
  • Ability to use discretion when handling and communicating sensitive information.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products and CRM’s.
