Rise Community Development

Rise Community Development (Rise) is a not-for-profit organization that partners with communities to build stronger, more equitable neighborhoods in the St. Louis bi-state region.  Rise provides capacity-building technical assistance to community-based development organizations; community engagement and planning services; access to key neighborhood data indicators; community development consulting services to local governments; housing development and development consulting; and financial services as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).

Rise is seeking a new Executive Director to lead the organization into its next era of growth and success. The Executive Director is the key management leader of Rise and its affiliates and is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

·       Organization Mission and Strategy: Articulates the mission of Rise to the public and stakeholders of all backgrounds; works with the Board of Directors and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.

·       Board Governance: Works closely with the Board on matters of organizational planning, fundraising, and board development; coordinates the board functions of multiple affiliated entities.

·       Financial Performance and Viability:  Understands and manages the overall financial condition of the organization; develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

·       Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCES

The new Executive Director of Rise will be an inspiring and strategic leader who is passionate about the mission of Rise and strengthening the local community development ecosystem. Essential competencies and experiences of the new Executive Director will include:

·       External and Strategic Orientation: Socially engaged and outgoing to lead networking and fundraising; ability to tell the Rise story with passion and impact; demonstrated success in fundraising; confident in challenging the board to actively engage in and support the work of Rise; active and present in the community; able to connect with stakeholders of all backgrounds.

·       Experienced Understanding and Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of the housing and community development field, including programs and funding sources; substantial experience successfully managing small to mid-size organizations; social entrepreneur with vision to identify new strategic ventures; a collaborative team leader who can engage and motivate a talented staff.

·       Inclusive: Thrives in diversity and intentionally promotes it; embraces and advances Rise’s commitment to racial equity and anti-racism; open to uncomfortable race conversations.

·       Problem Solver: Enjoys working through complex challenges; organized, analytical and willing to consider new ideas; leverages in-house talent with outside experts to achieve optimal results.

·       Passionate Steward: Takes ownership of the mission and work of Rise, charting a new direction and raising the organization’s profile; a selfless leader with a strong commitment to the future of St. Louis.

·       Coach and Mentor: Listens, observes, evaluates, and teaches to engage and build capacity of staff.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

·       A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required; graduate degree or degrees is preferred, especially in a related field. Candidates of all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

·       Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in senior management positions at organization(s) with an operating budget of at least $1 million.

·       Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors or other governing body.

·       A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.

·       Active fundraising experience; excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.

·       Strong public speaking, writing, and communication skills.

·       A history of creating and conducting successful social enterprises.

Rise offers a compensation package competitive with industry standards and commensurate with experience.
