The ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter

The community outreach and development coordinator works to implement the Swing For a Cure Golf Tournament, Kimmswick 5K and Volunteer & Community Outreach program and serves as an integral part of the Chapter’s development team. This person leads two of the Chapter’s fundraising events and is responsible for all coordination efforts to generate $124,000 in revenue, with various team supports. Relationship-building through engagement of event participants, sponsors and volunteers is key to this position, as well as event logistics, with the support of event volunteer committees. This person is also responsible for volunteer recruitment, coordination and retention for all departments while also engaging in community awareness activities through the Chapter’s territory (southeast Missouri and southern Illinois).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Coordination

Swing For a Cure Golf Tournament

  • Manage and/or oversee the coordination of all event activities and logistics, including but not limited to, tournament format, auction recruitment, solidifying food and beverage, rentals, AV, and signage.
  • Lead volunteer committee, encouraging, vetting and implementing ideas as appropriate in conjunction with development director.
  • Direct event corporate partnership initiative through sponsorship prospecting, solicitation and cultivation.
  • Work with development director and communications team to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing campaign for the event including copy writing, graphic design,  social media, email and mailings, advertising, web design, event signage and supplies.
  • Manage and adhere to all event budgets while working with senior staff to produce benchmark reports.
  • Produce year round stewardship plan to thank and educate all guests, volunteers and key participants in an effort to cultivate key relationships.

Kimmswick 5K

  • Work with event contractor, Fleet Feet, to manage and/or oversee the strategy and coordination of all event activities and logistics, solidifying food and beverage, rentals, AV, and providing copy for collateral materials, all while empowering, and mobilizing volunteer committees to support in these areas.
  • Responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with key constituents in regard to the run.
  • Lead event corporate partnership initiative through sponsorship prospecting, solicitation and cultivation.
  • Work with development director and communications team to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing campaign for the event including copy writing, graphic design, social media, email and mailings, advertising, web design, event signage and supplies.
  • Manage and adhere to all event budgets while working with senior staff to produce benchmark reports.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Serve as the main point of contact for all interested and current volunteers.
  • Promote a wide range of opportunities based on the Chapter’s program, fund development, and administrative needs using various platforms including volunteer websites, email, social media, etc.
  • Conduct an initial interview, ensure that paperwork, applicable training and screenings are conducted for each volunteer prior to work beginning.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteer event leads and/or staff lead to ensure all events are appropriately staffed and volunteers have the information they need to successfully do their assigned job.
  • Work with local companies, schools and civic organizations to recruit volunteer groups patient service program.
  • Attend volunteer fairs and general outreach events such as volunteer fairs, health and wellness fairs, and community resources days, as opportunities arise; confirm opportunities for volunteers to attend these events and/or speak/present throughout the service region.
  • Execute a year round volunteer engagement and stewardship plan including mass and personalized communication through various channels and methods.
  • Maintain and report on yearly statics for volunteers and outreach participation including meeting United Way volunteer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area.

POSITION SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • At least one year of fundraising, event planning or related experience.
  • Customer-service mentality; with key emphasis on relationship building.
  • Listens and communicates effectively in person, in writing, and electronically to a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Self-starter who is results-oriented with a commitment to accountability and follow-through.
  • Strong organizational skills, prioritizes and manages multiple priorities and projects.
  • Team player who is multifaceted, versatile willing to lead some projects while offering support on others.
  • Comfortable with interacting with patients and families dealing with serious medical conditions, while being empathetic and compassionate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work week is Monday-Friday. Some weekday evenings and weekend hours will be required as needed for meetings and special events. At this time, a remote schedule is optional.
  • This position requires some travel within the St. Louis and central and southern Illinois region. A valid driver’s license, or reliable transportation, is required.
