About Arts & Faith St. Louis
Arts & Faith St. Louis (Arts & Faith) is an LLC of the non-profit Sheldon Arts Foundation with a mission to build a harmonious St. Louis by creating shared arts experiences among diverse faith communities. Arts & Faith believes that the arts have a unique power to inspire thoughtful discussion among diverse audiences, to bring people together, and to bridge divides through shared arts experiences. The primary activities are an annual Interfaith Concert at the Sheldon Concert Hall (on cable TV and online in 2020), Interfaith Tours at the St. Louis Art Museum (currently on hiatus), and storytelling events in collaboration with the St. Louis Storytelling Festival (online in 2020), plus additional special projects in other arts genres and in collaboration with other organizations. 2021 will be the 10th anniversary of Arts & Faith that began with a 2011 concert marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
Position Summary
Arts & Faith seeks an individual with skills and experience in both fundraising and publicity, but the part-time position could be broken into two separate positions. The individual will report to and work closely with the Executive Director, as well as the Planning Committee Chair, Development and Publicity Committee Chairs, and the 25 members of the Planning Committee to raise the funds, currently $50,000 each year, needed to support the annual concert and other programming, and to publicize Arts & Faith programming in the St. Louis community. The ideal candidate will be organized, attentive to detail and supportive of the important interfaith dimension of Arts & Faith.
Duties and Responsibilities
Development Coordinator:
- Coordinate the overall fundraising efforts of Arts & Faith in order to meet the budgeted contribution goals to support the annual concert/live-streamed event and other programs and events of Arts & Faith
- Maintain donor records and develop donor prospect lists with the Development Committee and the Planning Committee
- Solicit individuals through direct mail
- Solicit foundations, corporations and funding agencies such as the Regional Arts Commission, writing proposals and submitting reports, both in a timely manner
- Make monthly contribution status reports to the Executive Director and Development Committee Chair
- Work with Sheldon staff to ensure that all donors are thanked in a timely manner with a letter that includes mention of the tax-deductible portion of their gift
- If there is a live concert component, coordinate parking for donors, the distribution of concert tickets and the concert seating of major donors
- Compile and proof all copy for the printed concert program , including proper donor recognition and approved description and texts of musical works and faith ensemble participation, and serve as the primary contact with the designer and printer
Publicity Coordinator:
- Publicize locally and regionally the fall 2021 music event, the spring 2021 collaboration with the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, the SLAM interfaith tours when they resume and other Arts & Faith events through press releases, calendar listings, and engagement of print and broadcast media
- Manage the Arts & Faith website and supervise social media posts
- Schedule media interviews with event participants and key members of the Planning Committee
- Place paid ads, if any, as approved by the Steering or Planning Committees
- Distribute complimentary concert tickets to media and others to any live events
Selection Criteria
- Three (3) years experience in fundraising and/or publicity
- Excellent people skills and respect for people of many faiths
- Excellent writing and computer skills, with attention to detail
The work is part-time, approximately 10 hours per week with some ongoing responsibilities but with busier times during donor cultivation and solicitations, weeks needing publicity leading up to Arts & Faith programs, and participation at events.
