YWCA Metro St. Louis

Purpose: Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director Racial Justice (DRJ) is responsible for YWCA’s participation on eliminating racism in the St. Louis region.

The DRJ must be a change agent who will be at the forefront to design and execute regional and national racial justice strategies and initiatives. Lead, develop, and foster a racial justice roadmap with a focus on achieving measurable and sustainable results.

The DRJ will drive leadership and community awareness, commitment and accountability. Create a cohesive approach to align and integrate a range of new and existing initiatives, policies, training and systems that foster a community where all can thrive, understanding that systemic racism has disproportionately hindered communities of color.

Job Responsibilities:

•Responsible for building and designing training and education curriculum towards the elimination of racism. Create and build community relationships and partnerships in the St. Louis Area.

Represent YWCA Metro St. Louis on racial justice and public policy related issues both locally and nationally.

•Lead the vision, strategic development, delivery and assessment of YWCA’s Racial Justice program and initiatives related to staff, volunteers, local and global outreach programs.

•Collaborate with Senior Leadership, Board and other stakeholders to create programs which demonstrate YWCA’s commitment to racial justice for staff, volunteers, visitors, the local community and broader outreach.

•Create internal and external training around race and the critical race theory of education.

•Prepare monthly reports for the YWCA Board Meetings

•Develop surveys and measurement tools to measure the success and implementation of the training and processes.

•Must be well versed on the history, policies and practices of institutional and systemic racism in the United States.

•Create racial dialogue around race internally and externally.

•Provide website content on racial justice.

•Assist in creating and maintaining an organizational wide racial justice “philosophy” that is consistent with our core values to eliminate racism.

•Partner with leadership and the community to design and implement change initiatives that foster a culture of racial justice that drives employee and community engagement.

•Represent the organization at conferences, events, etc.

•Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

•A minimum of five years-experience in racial equity work.

•Ability to articulate the direction of Racial Justice and the intersection of racial justice and public policy in relation to YWCA’s mission, strategy and goals.

•Previous work in leading organizational culture change.

•Ability to organize, manage and drive projects to completion. Supports a climate of high achievement and accountability.

•Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.

•Prior experience creating and successfully developing Diversity and Inclusion programs.

•Experience in successful project management is preferred.

•Excellent collaboration skills; ability to work effectively across teams.

•Ability to manage and influence change throughout the organization.

•Proficient experience using Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience Requirements:

•Minimum Bachelor’s Degree Public Policy, Organizational Development or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
