CASA of St. Louis represents the best interests of abused and neglected children placed in foster care in St. Louis. Through no fault of their own, children and youth from birth through 21 find themselves under the protective custody of the state.  Critical decisions affecting their lives today and their futures are made by the court.  An overburdened state agency is responsible for their safety, well-being and permanency.

CASA volunteers, child advocacy attorneys and social work professionals’ advocate for children to ensure their safety, enable them to heal, improve their experiences in foster care and help them find a forever family.  CASA of St. Louis child advocates ensure children are receiving the educational, health and mental health services they need to heal while working to find them safety and stability in a home where they can thrive.

The Opportunity

CASA of St. Louis is seeking two experienced and accomplished professionals to supervise and support CASA volunteers in the delivery of high-quality advocacy to abused and neglected children.

Summary

Supervise CASA volunteers in the delivery of high-quality advocacy to abused and neglected children.

Essential job duties:

  • Provides quality case management support to 30+ volunteers as required by state and National CASA standards as they advocate in court and in the community on behalf of abused and neglected children.
  • Guides the volunteers in developing an individualized case advocacy plan for each child.
  • Maintains current knowledge about available community resources to support the developmental, physical, emotional and social needs of at-risk children.
  • Maintains all case records pertaining to children assigned to volunteers under direct supervision.
  • Reviews legal and social court files and all order materials pertaining to cases assigned to volunteers under direct supervision.
  • Visits child and attends family support team meetings, team decision making meetings and other meetings pertaining to a child or case with, or in place of, the volunteer as needed.
  • Assumes child advocate duties for cases when a volunteer leaves a case or is not appropriate for the case.
  • Assists in screening cases to determine appropriateness of the CASA program’s involvement.
  • Participates in staff discussion for case prioritization.
  • Assists in training prospective and active CASA volunteers.
  • Represents CASA of St. Louis in community partnerships.

Minimum job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social work, psychology or related field. MSW degree preferred, or equivalent education and experience in social work, psychology or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with underserved families.
  • 3-5 years supervising volunteers.
  • Administrative experience in a child welfare or social service agency preferred.

Other qualifications, job skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse and neglect.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, strong organizational skills and attention to detail; strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills; effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
