Shriners Hospitals for Children

Shriners Hospital has an immediate opening for a Development Officer III in the Development Department. This is a fulltime, benefit eligible position.

Position Purpose:  Hospital-based position that reports directly to the hospital’s Administrator with a reporting relationship to the Corporate Director of Donor Development through the Senior Regional Planned and Major Giving Director.  Identifies and cultivates prospective donors in the local community from whom to solicit gifts.  Nurture donor relationships through regular contact, communication and recognition. For the purpose of fund raising, develops and maintains relationships with hospital-affiliated Shrine Temples and the local community.  Responsible for following and fulfilling the objectives and goals disseminated by Shriners Hospitals for Children’s national and local boards as well as the Corporate Director of Donor Development.  Directs, mentors, trains and supports a hospital-based development team.  The position requires the willingness and ability to travel as needed and willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Specifications:  (Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Required: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with at least five (5) years of experience working with major giving and planned giving programs
  • Required: Experience closing six (6) to seven (7) figure major and planned gifts from individuals, a working knowledge of all planned giving vehicles and prior experience with Charitable Gift Annuities Programs
  • A demonstrable track record of fund-raising accomplishments is essential, including experience in building a major gifts program into a core component of philanthropic activity
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of education and experience required. Graduate degree or post baccalaureate education preferred
  • Healthcare fundraising, capital campaign, and supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong staff management and leadership skills with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work successfully with colleagues, donors, administrators, and volunteers
  • Must be a facilitator with excellent management skills and results-oriented
  • Highly developed ability to work independently within a strong teamwork philosophy as well as collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Donor database system (Blackbaud CRM) experience preferred
  • Detail oriented with respect to planning, file analysis, and record keeping is essential
  • Skilled in prospect management and prospect research
