The Board of Directors of Epworth Children & Family Services seeks a leader to advance the organization’s mission to help children, youth, and families move toward self-sufficiency by focusing on health, housing, education, and employment.
Position Opportunity
The President and CEO ensures that the organization is operated in an efficient and effective manner that yields high quality outcomes and service innovations. The Board seeks experienced and highly qualified applicants who are passionate, strategic, and resourceful. The successful candidate will be:
- Deeply committed to the mission and to the community Epworth serves
- Ensures high quality programming and positive outcomes for children, youth and families
- Future-oriented – able to identify opportunities and ensure that Epworth thrives in the rapidly changing nonprofit landscape
- Has successfully demonstrated leadership and business acumen
- Understands accountability to the budget process, to donors, and to the Board
- Possess relationships within the community that create meaningful fundraising and partnership exchanges
- A thought leader that is able to substantially inform the children, youth and family services agenda for the region and the State.
Desired qualifications include a Masters’ degree, 10 or more years of progressively responsible senior management or executive experience, and leadership experience in child welfare or behavioral health care.

For 150 years, Epworth Children and Family Services has provided the St. Louis community with essential youth development services that have helped thousands of children overcome severe emotional and behavioral challenges caused by abuse or neglect.
Epworth’s innovative, holistic and comprehensive treatment approach helps youth focus on solutions, build on inherent strengths and communicate more effectively. More than 7,500 youth and families turn to Epworth each year for emergency shelter, residential and intensive treatment, family reunification therapy, transitional and independent living programs, special education, foster family care, prevention services and a 24-hour help line. Epworth’s strength- based therapeutic philosophy builds on the individual strengths of youth and families, thus increasing the capacity of each to thrive in society.
