The Jewish Community Center
The Manager of Grants and Foundations will play a critical role in cultivating, stewarding and grant writing/soliciting donor support from grant funders, and foundations and public agencies for all programs at the J. There is a strong coordination with program areas, especially Cultural Arts, Jewish Life and Adult Day, including determination of who will write each grant, either the program person or the Gift Officer.
Responsibilities include identifying and researching new possible funding opportunities as well as stewardship of new and existing donors to increase overall retention and giving levels. The Manager of Grants and Foundations will also manage and write the Jewish Federation and United Way grants. This role reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, and will work closely and collaboratively with the whole development team as well as the staff at the J.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a grant calendar to ensure all grants and impact reports are submitted on a timely basis.
- Actively manage a portfolio of approximately 100 new and existing funders to contribute to the J’s annual and long-term fundraising goals. This will primarily include grant funders and foundations. May include some individuals associated with these other assignments.
- Routinely steward funders, ensuring that the J communicates with them on a regular basis and shares the impact of our donors’ investments. Also communicate the marketing visibility benefit, if relevant.
- Identify, research and cultivate new prospective grant funders and foundations in partnership with Chief Philanthropy Officer and program areas.
- Collect needed data for grants and develop one sheets illustrating the impact of our work.
- Manage, collect data, and write grants for our Jewish Federation and United Way funding, which also includes impact updates.
- Manage, write grants and steward public agency/government grants.
- Help manage Family Foundation preparation, follow up work and stewardship even when CPO or CEO is the relationship manager
- Establish annual grant and foundation goals in consultation with the Annual Fund Manager and the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
- Serve as a liaison with Adult Day, Life Enrichment and Early Childhood, to ensure the philanthropy team is updated about programs and/or events in those areas and to serve as a philanthropy resource and face of the philanthropy team to the program areas as well.
- Work collaboratively with the J’s departments to develop funding opportunities in support of programming.
- Occasionally represent the J at events with donors
- Assist the Chief Philanthropy Officer with Board Development Committee efforts as needed
- Work with Chief Philanthropy Officer to create and maintain programs to promote planned giving as part of estate and trust planning when strategically makes sense with a funder or Foundation.
- Track and record efforts with donors and prospects within our donor database.
- Execute responsibilities on a timely basis and within budgeted parameters.
- Ability to multi-task and support teammates broadly in support of our philanthropic goals.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years of increasingly responsible development experience with a solid understanding of fundraising concepts and grant research and writing.
- Must be able to organize and implement strategic plans (financial, business development, marketing, branding, etc.), work independently as well as part of a team, follow through on assignments and prioritize competing tasks.
- Understanding of government and private foundation cycles and priorities.
- Superior organization, communication, social and writing skills along with a talent for creating communal collaborations and partnerships are required.
- Understanding of J’s mission and feeling a connection to the J is important.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Proficiency using Salesforce is desired or a demonstrated ability to learn new software programs in support of one’s work.
