St. Luke's Hospital

Under the direct supervision of the Vice President and Executive Director of Development, the Senior Major Gift Officer (SMGO) is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors. The SMGO will qualify a portfolio of approximately 100–150 prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $10,000 or more, with the expectation of securing transformational six- and seven-figure commitments that will drive campaign success.

Principal Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Solicitation (≈70%)

Cultivate, solicit, and steward major and planned gifts, ensuring tailored strategies that align with donor interests and hospital priorities.
Be accountable for defined portfolio performance benchmarks and metrics, ensuring consistent progress toward fundraising goals and timely movement of prospects through the donor life cycle.

Prospect Identification & Pipeline Building (≈15%)

Leverage the Grateful Patient Program as a pipeline for major donor identification
Collaborate with the Annual Fund Manager to review screened lists, ensuring that high-net-worth and physician-referred prospects are managed at the major gift level.
Engage hospital leaders, clinicians, and volunteers as fundraising partners in prospect cultivation.

Collaboration & Systems (≈15%)

Support donor events and cultivation opportunities, including hospital tours, leadership briefings, and recognition events.
Work closely within the Development Office to align major gift efforts with annual giving, planned giving, and events.
Track and report activity in Raiser’s Edge, following best practices for coding and moves management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Baseline knowledge of various planned giving vehicles (particularly bequests and trusts).
Familiarity with grateful patient fundraising and physician engagement strategies.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong strategic thinking, with creativity in cultivating and engaging donors.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, clinicians, and volunteers.
Proficiency in fundraising CRM (Raiser’s Edge preferred) and Microsoft Office suite.
