DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

LOVEtheLOU is seeking a mission-driven Director of Business Management to oversee the financial health and administrative systems of our Christ-centered community development organization. This role serves as a vital bridge between program impact and operational excellence, ensuring that our business practices are transparent, accurate, and aligned with our mission of neighborhood restoration and empowerment.

LOVEtheLOU is a Christ-centered nonprofit transforming St. Louis neighborhoods through empowerment, economic opportunity, and relationship-building. We work deeply within four North St. Louis neighborhoods, partnering with residents to build sustainable, thriving communities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Business Management is responsible for accounting and financial management, business operations, payroll, vendor management, and human resources administration. This role also supports executive leadership and the Board by providing clear financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic insights that promote long-term sustainability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management & Accounting

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Manage multiple revenue streams, including individual donations, grants, and government funding
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure funder compliance
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and dashboards for executive leadership and the Board
  • Coordinate annual audit, Form 990, and adherence to GAAP and nonprofit best practices

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Support annual budgets and multi-year financial forecasts
  • Monitor cash flow and funding sustainability; recommend course corrections
  • Oversee risk management, insurance coverage, and internal controls
    Manage vendor and contract relationships (banking, payroll, audit, insurance)
  • Collaborate with Development to align donor reporting and stewardship

Human Resources & Administration

  • Coordinate onboarding, payroll, benefits, workers’ compensation, FMLA, and compliance
  • Process bi-weekly payroll and ensure accurate PTO and time tracking
  • Administer employee benefits and liaise with brokers, carriers, and staff

Systems & Data Management

  • Maintain financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Dext, donor CRM integrations)
  • Implement efficient reconciliation and documentation workflows
  • Lead administrative staff or contractors supporting bookkeeping and HR

Preference for candidates with lived or professional experience in North St. Louis
QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field
    5–7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit financial management or accounting
  • Experience managing multiple revenue streams
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, audits, and internal controls
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Preferred

  • MBA, CPA, or Master’s in Nonprofit Management
  • Experience in a faith-based or Christ-centered organization
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Connection to LOVEtheLOU’s service neighborhoods

Salary Range

Bachelor’s degree + 5–7 years of experience: $68,000 – $82,000
Master’s/MBA + 5+ years of experience: $78,000 – $92,000
