Haven of Grace
Development Director
Haven of Grace is searching for a Development Director to serve as a partner to the CEO in charting the organization’s philanthropic future. This is a chance to step into a loved and growing organization and help build toward a strong, sustainable development program. The person in this role will bring structure and vision to the fundraising effort by developing and executing a comprehensive development plan, strengthening the organization’s use of its Raiser’s Edge database and donor systems, and continuing to grow contributed revenue through individual giving and events. The CEO is deeply engaged as a fundraising partner and ambassador, and the Development Director will be the architect who turns that relationship capital into a lasting, scalable program. This role suits someone who wants to build something, who sees opportunity in a season of growth, and who wants their fingerprints on a fundraising program for years to come.
About the Organization
Haven of Grace offers unhoused pregnant women and mothers with young children a chance to build a stable, independent future. The organization is celebrating 40 years and is on a roll. In under five years, it has grown revenue from $1.2 million to $2.5 million, and its flagship fundraising event, MOMentous, has grown from raising $50,000 annually to $250,000. Haven of Grace recently earned United Way Safety Net status, a distinction that speaks to its strength and stability. The organization is entering a new chapter and is ready to build development infrastructure to match its vision for the families it serves. It is based in North St. Louis.
What the Role Involves
The Development Director will partner with the CEO to develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year plan and calendar of fundraising and stewardship activity, and will build and strengthen the systems and infrastructure needed to track, grow, and steward donor relationships. A central focus is continuing to grow contributed revenue through individual giving, with attention to cultivating and expanding the individual donor pipeline.
The Development Director will lead planning and execution of MOMentous, the signature annual fundraising event, and will evaluate opportunities for a complementary second event. Other responsibilities include planning and executing a 24-hour matching gift campaign, overseeing donor communications, acknowledgment, and recognition practices, and supervising part-time development support staff who manage the state tax credit program. The role also supports the grants strategy alongside the CEO and an outsourced grants team.
Beyond the program work, this person will represent Haven of Grace with warmth and credibility in the community, including in North St. Louis, and will serve as an engaged, hands-on member of the team who is willing to pitch in when needed, whether that means joining a field trip with program participants or supporting an evening event.
The Ideal Candidate is a builder at heart: someone who finds satisfaction in creating order, process, and momentum, and who is motivated by people and mission as much as by metrics. Haven of Grace needs a fundraiser who can take ownership of a growing program while serving as a thought partner to a CEO who is energized by fundraising and wants a strong collaborator as her fundraising leader.
To apply: Candidates should submit a resume and cover letter expressing their interest and qualifications to EMD Consulting at search@emdconsulting.com. The submission deadline is August 20, 2026.
Compensation: The position is budgeted at $75,000 to $85,000 and includes a dedicated professional development fund to support the Development Director’s continued growth in the field.
