Harris-Stowe State University is seeking a Senior Buyer to join our Financial Affairs team, reporting to the Director of Business Services. This is a chance to lead procurement strategy at a mission-driven institution where your work directly supports students, faculty, and the broader campus community.
What You’ll Do
As Senior Buyer, you’ll take ownership of complex, high-value procurement, from bid specifications through contract negotiation. You’ll:
- Lead procurement strategy so essential goods and services reach campus on time
- Manage competitive bidding processes, including RFPs, IFBs, and RFQs, for major University contracts
- Negotiate directly with vendors and build strategic supplier relationships
- Serve as the University’s go-to expert on Missouri and federal procurement law
- Mentor junior procurement staff and help shape best practices across the team
- Partner with department heads and senior leadership on strategic purchasing decisions
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree (Business, Supply Chain Management, or Accounting preferred)
- 5+ years of procurement experience with a track record of increasing responsibility
- Experience managing complex solicitations and negotiating vendor contracts
- Government or university procurement experience is a plus
- CPPB, CPM, CSCP, or similar certification is a plus
