Overview
The Director of Development (DOD) reports directly to the CEO/Executive Director. The DOD leads the creation and implementation of an overarching plan to raise funds and public awareness for this top-performing public charter school in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. Yearly, the DOD reviews the outcomes of the fundraising campaigns as set out in the Development Plan and adjusts or transforms efforts as needed to increase revenues and public visibility. The DOD oversees the branding and public messaging for the school with a focus on attracting and retaining supporters. To better enable the principals and faculty to focus on serving scholars and families, the DOD focuses on attracting and serving donors and volunteers.
Fundraising Roles
- Manages time and resources to set and exceed the budgeted annual fundraising goal set in partnership with the CEO/Executive Director
- Creates and manages an annual grants calendar. This includes the research, writing, and follow-up reports required by grantors and prospective grantors.
- Plans and provides administrative and creative leadership for fundraising and donor-centered events with a focus on the annual gala
- Researches potential donors, schedules phone and in person meetings, gives campus tours, and helps cultivate relationships
- Researches new methods for earning income or creating other new revenue streams
- Manages upkeep of core communication pieces with the Board of Directors and serves as the liaison with the Young Friends Board and volunteers
- Manages the donor database, updates records as needed, and runs monthly reports and other reports as requested
- Generates, appropriately customizes, and sends thank you letters or packages for all donations received
External Communications Tasks
- Writes and designs content for the school’s website, social media accounts, and bi-monthly newsletter
- Creates and ensures brand standards are met on all school collateral seen by the public. This includes stationary, brochures, postcards and any other items bearing the school logo shared externally.
- Strategically identifies key external community events to showcase the school as well as key audiences for presentations by the CEO/Executive Director or members of the Development Team or board
- Serves as director of photography and photo archivist so that school photos may be used to their best advantage while respecting the safety and privacy of our scholars
- Serves as primary liaison to traditional media outlets and primary liaison for social media responses and responses to the school’s general email account (info@…)
- Serves as initial liaison for episodic volunteer groups, tutors, and those who volunteer online. Manages these relationships and retention of tutors and annual/twice-annual groups.
- Creates and manages implementation of external messaging through cohesive calendars for social media, enews and traditional media messaging. This includes special planning around the most relevant awareness days, weeks, and months.
- Leads new scholar recruitment/enrollment efforts each February-August through creating messaging shared with the nearby community via strategic marketing outreach
