Position Overview – The Director of Program and Community Engagement (DPCE) is an integral part of the HW! leadership team and serves as the organization’s primary liaison with current and prospective school partners, community organizations, and elected officials. The DPCE is responsible for implementing, operating, and expanding the HW! family engagement program with all roles within the program function reporting to this position. The ideal candidate for this role has a passion for our mission, has a vision for how our current program can evolve in meaningful ways to expand our footprint within and across schools, values diversity and cross-cultural understanding, and thrives in a complex and collaborative working environment.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Direct Reports to DPCE: Program Leaders, Manager of Analysis and Impact, Program Apprentice, and third-party program evaluation consultants

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Vision
o Provide thought leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs
o Develop and implement strategies that align program areas and foster cross-functional collaboration across teams
o Advocate for the resources and infrastructure needed to achieve program goals, working closely with Development to inform the fundraising strategy to support those priorities
o Pursue ongoing professional learning (including representing HW! locally and nationally in family engagement spaces) to remain at the forefront of best practices in program development and community engagement

Community Engagement and Partnership Building
o Maintain a visible and trusted presence with school district leaders, school staff, parents/families, elected officials, and other community stakeholders
o Cultivate strategic partnerships to enhance program reach and community impact with a focus on collaboration across organizations
o Represent HW! in public forums, storytelling/advocacy efforts, and community initiatives

Program Oversight and Innovation
o Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs to ensure alignment with organizational mission/strategy and community needs
o Ensure program fidelity and effectiveness through creation/oversight of SOP, data-monitoring, and other systems as appropriate
o Collaborate with external evaluation consultants to analyze programmatic outcomes and make strategic recommendations/adjustments accordingly to maximize impact

Team Leadership and Talent Development
o Recruit, onboard, support, and manage program staff while providing coaching and regular performance management feedback aligned with program goals
o Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement/growth mindset within the program team
o Design and implement professional development plans based on individual and team needs

Program Monitoring and Quality Assurance
o Ensure consistent tracking and delivery of program implementation at district, school, and classroom levels
o Work collaboratively with Program Leaders to develop quality standards while deciding on must-have vs. nice-to-have implementation components
o Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of all training initiatives to support program integrity and impact

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
● Deep commitment to educational equity, youth development, or civic engagement
● Bachelor’s degree or at least 5+ years of relevant programmatic work experience required
● 2-3 years of supervisory experience required (including direct experience with performance management)
● Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with school administrators, community organizations, and public officials
● Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to independently juggle multiple deadlines and deliverables
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence in representing the organization externally
● Proven ability to engage diverse communities with cultural responsiveness and equity in mind, especially when it comes to building relationships across diverse groups and sectors
● Analytical mindset and tech-savvy with the ability to interpret program data to support continuous improvement (experience with AirTable/similar data analysis tools, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, Zoom/similar video conferencing platforms, and payroll/AP systems preferred)
● Ability to adapt to change and flexible/proactive approach to help refine systems as the organization grows
● Familiarity with St. Louis-area community networks, schools, and landscape preferred

Work Environment:
HW! prides itself on cultivating a balanced, flexible, and rewarding work environment. We offer a hybrid work environment, so work will take place in the office, at schools, and remotely from home as appropriate. The DPCE’s working hours will need to be flexible to accommodate school schedules, which will require occasional evening hours at school-based events or Board meetings. The DPCE does primarily travel within the Greater St. Louis Area with infrequent travel to central Missouri to support our rural programming.

Position Specifications:
● Full-time, exempt
● $70,000-$77,000 annual compensation commensurate with experience
