The Director of Development is responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift donors, provides management of members of the Engineering A&D team, as assigned by the Executive Director of Development, and works closely with other A&D leaders as well as academic and administrative leaders in Engineering.
The mission of the James McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis is to promote independent inquiry in engineering research and education with an emphasis on scientific excellence, innovation, and collaboration without boundaries. McKelvey Engineering brings together faculty, students, and partners to develop innovative solutions to the most urgent challenges facing America and the world: cleaner energy and the environment, cybersecurity and advanced information technology, and better medicine and improved human health.
The Director will manage a portfolio of 150 major gift, planned giving, and annual fund prospects. Develop and implement plans for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects and involving A&D colleagues, Engineering administrative, and academic leaders as appropriate. Engage prospects and donors in the St. Louis region and other assigned regions. Conduct 125 personal visitations each year, complete 50+ solicitations each year, and qualify 25 new prospects each year.
As assigned by the Executive Director of Development, supervise staff and programs in order to raise major and annual fund gifts for Engineering. Set performance goals and provide mentorship, guidance, and regular feedback on performance to direct reports.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Seven years of experience including major gift, planned giving, annual fund, or capital campaign experience.
