Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician ensures safe and efficient operation of facilities and grounds. This role combines general building maintenance with routine custodial and landscaping duties. The ideal candidate is skilled in basic repair work, proactive in addressing facility needs, and committed to high standards of safety and cleanliness.
Conditions of Employment
Must be available to work certain weekends and evenings. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record/MVR. Selection for this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, conducted in accordance with local laws and only after a conditional offer is extended.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Maintenance and Operations Support: Perform minor repairs and maintenance on fixtures, furniture, and equipment; assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for meetings, events, or special projects.
· Custodial: Clean and maintain all surfaces; disinfect and restock restrooms and break areas with supplies; wash glass and mirrored surfaces to maintain a clean appearance; collect and dispose of trash and recycling from all internal receptacles into designated outdoor dumpsters.
· Groundskeeper: Mow grass, edge walkways, keep sidewalks and walking areas clean of loose grass and brush; remove sticks, limbs, debris, and litter from grassy areas and walks; maintain all equipment in proper working order; shovel snow and/or spread salt on sidewalks to prevent ice buildups.
· Inventory and Safety Management: Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, requisitioning new supplies as needed; safely use and store cleaning chemicals and power equipment according to instructions and safety guidelines; adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE); respond promptly to spills or accidents for the safety of everyone; notify SDT staff of major repair needs or safety hazards.
· Miscellaneous: Performs other maintenance and custodial duties as assigned by SDT staff. May be necessary at times to work alone in the building and would be responsible for securing the facility after hours by locking doors and windows and setting alarms.
Required Experience & Technical Knowledge
· Professional Experience: Minimum of one year of professional maintenance technician experience or a combination of formal vocational training and related field work.
· Equipment Proficiency: Competency in operating a range of industrial tools and machinery, including but not limited to, commercial vacuums, hard floor buffers, carpet shampooers, power washers, mowers, edgers, and basic hand/power tools (e.g., electric drills).
· Sanitation Standards: In-depth understanding of industrial cleaning methods, restroom sanitization protocols, and the safe application of chemical disinfectants.
· Physical Demands: Ability to perform required tasks, including frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs independently and occasionally moving objects over 75–100 lbs using assistive devices.
· Mobility & Agility: Capacity to stand and walk for nearly the entire shift (up to 7 out of 8 hours), with the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach overhead frequently. Comfortable working at heights, including climbing ladders to replace fixtures or inspect ceiling tiles.
· Comprehension and Problem Solving: Ability to accurately follow complex written and oral instructions and respond to supervisor requests in a timely manner with minimal oversight. Demonstrated reliability to execute routine tasks according to standard practices while exercising independent judgment to address immediate safety or maintenance needs.
· Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to interact positively with co-workers, management, and the public in a professional manner.
· Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to proper use of PPE and handling of hazardous materials as mandated by federal and local authorities.
· Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to cleaning and inspections to ensure the highest standards of facility health and safety are met.
· Dependability: A proven record of reliability and the self-motivation required to secure facilities and complete assignments without constant direct supervision.
