JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the senior business and financial officer for the Association and its schools. This position primarily assists the Board in its fiduciary and planning roles by providing financial management and planning. Secondarily, the CFO will advise and counsel the Principal and business office staff at each school to ensure that business policies, financial policies, HR policies and regulations, and associated processes are implemented with integrity.

The CFO will directly oversee all financial management processes at the Association level, which includes payroll, maintaining the ledger, and administering the accounting systems. The CFO will advise and counsel the schools, Operating Committee(s) and board in the preparation and board approval of the annual budgets.

The CFO serves as the primary point of contact with the Board’s selected external financial auditing firm, external investment manager(s), banking relationships, institutional insurance contracts, debt servicing, legal counsel and other corporate relationships on behalf of the Board for professional services and risk management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for compliance with established business office policies and procedures, including internal controls, and recommends changes to policies as needed to ensure compliance with all laws and accounting standards
  • Presents a budget for the  centralized Association level functions to the Board and manages that approved budget during the fiscal year
  • Acts as liaison with outside auditors in all matters regarding the Association
    Prepares regular financial summary statements for the Treasurer and Board and shares monthly income, cash flow and other statements to the principals and school business managers
  • Responsible for and manages accounting processes related to maintaining the general ledger for the Association
  • Responsible for all aspects of treasury management
  • Coordinates and monitors the investments of the Association with the external investment firm(s) and manages all investment transactions
  • Approves, establishes and monitors all banking and lending relationships for the Association and its schools
  • Prepares long range financial planning and works with the Treasurer on business and financial analysis for the strategic plan, special projects and Board strategy development
  • Manages the payroll process for the Association
  • Oversees Association Accounting/Accounts Payable employees and processes
  • Coordinates with the Principals and Advancement/Development Directors at each school to monitor all grant and philanthropic activity
  • Provides for risk management to the Association and its schools and coordinates with the insurance carriers to assess and measure all insurable risks and secures coverage
  • Prepares and files all required regulatory and government reports for Association

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/management, finance or accounting required; Master’s in related discipline, MBA and/or CPA certification preferred
  • Minimum of 10 or more years of progressively responsible accounting duties, preferably with knowledge of not-for-profit/educational accounting requirements; supervisory experience with at least two or more direct report employees required
  • Advanced proficiency with general accounting and financial management information systems (experience with Blackbaud products, including Financial Edge, Raisers Edge products highly desirable), database systems and query interfaces, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Proven management success in an outcomes-oriented environment and ability to be effective in working with many details in a multitask, multi-site environment and effectively leading a team and coordinating the work with others in that environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and motivational skills including the ability to effectively communicate with Trustees, parents and other external constituents in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule including weekends, weeknights, and weekends in support of events and school or Association activities related to fundraising and handling cash
