About Tower Grove Community Development Corporation and HomeScreen: TGCDC promotes and improves the quality of life by attracting public and private investment and providing real estate and other community services, such as our tenant screening service, HomeScreen. HomeScreen provides data-driven tenant screening solutions for landlords and property managers looking to create equitable and stable rental housing within their communities. HomeScreen has grown steadily since 2014 and is utilized by over 1250 rental property owners through the Saint Louis Metro Area and beyond. Our goal is to reframe the traditional tenant screening model and continue to broaden our impact by partnering with private landlords/property managers, affordable housing providers, nonprofit organizations, and credit building services.

Job Overview: The Application Specialist will be a part of TGCDC, working on the HomeScreen team to process HomeScreen applications from potential tenants and make referrals to landlords/property managers. The Application Specialist will work from the desk at the entry of the TGCDC Office and will serve as the first line of communication for all applicants in person, over the phone, and by email.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Processes tenant screening applications, according to HomeScreen workflow, including interpreting background reports and accurately verifying rental history and income
Provides timely recommendation to landlord/ property manager through proactive communication with landlords, property managers, applicants and applicants’ references; assists with interpreting the recommendation or any detail of applicant’s report
Assists potential tenants with submitting applications in office or online
Consistently contacts potential tenants with incomplete applications and instructs them on how to fully submit the application
Manages secure storage and disposal of hard copy applications
Provides timely correspondence for all general inbox emails and voicemail messages
Maintains accurate knowledge of TGCDC and HomeScreen affiliates; educates and connects applicants to credit building opportunities and other services
Collaborate with HomeScreen team to update screening criteria using racial equity lens, especially related to voucher holders
Collect feedback from applicants to improve overall HomeScreen system
Welcomes and onboards new landlords/ property managers to HomeScreen in office, by phone, or by e- mail
Assist in other TGCDC activities as necessary

Qualifications:
Interest in and dedication to the TGCDC mission, especially related to racial equity and housing
In-office availability Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm
Detail-oriented with dedication to completing tasks accurately (goals set by the HomeScreen Manager)
Dependable self-starter, with high-level time management, and determination to work efficiently and systematically
Flexibility to adjust to the ever-changing priorities of the day, while still able to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills, including walk-in meetings, phone calls, and e-mails with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
Consistently delivers high level customer service while anticipating users’ needs
Maintain professionalism and show empathy, as subject material may be sensitive
Problem solver able to use deductive reasoning to reach a conclusion
Strong computer skills, including internet research and ability to provide technical support to HomeScreen users
Working knowledge of the rental property and credit industries
Creative thinker able to collaborate with other HomeScreen team members
Preferred: experience and/or interest in social media marketing
