Director of Development
St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum, St. Louis, MO
Position Accountabilities
The Development Director is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive development program to generate financial support to advance the Museum’s mission and goals. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Museum, and in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Development Director leads a team of development professionals, charged with individual donor solicitations, planned giving, annual campaigns, grants from private foundations, and corporations.
Responsibilities Include:
· Support Executive Director (ED) to connect the Museum to the Jewish and larger community, including members of the corporate community, members of the academic community, and key funders.
· Create and oversee execution of engagement and development work plan for Museum.
· Set development goals and strategies across all functions of the museum to maximize engagement.
· Develop and evaluate strategies for current donor retention and growth.
· Develop strategy for planned giving and endowments.
· Identify grant opportunities and lead preparation of applications for funding.
· Identify and implement strategies for corporate and foundation sponsorships.
· Identify strategies for the development of museum membership programs.
· Identify additional revenue strategies to help ensure growth and sustainability of the Museum.
· Develop written proposals and key communication pieces for fundraising events and activities.
· Oversee accurate fund management and data entry related to donor activity.
· Engage in community and media activities, serving as a representative of the museum.
Experience & Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree, preferred.
· 5 – 7 years plus of development, sales, or related experience, required.
· Familiarity with museum environments strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor the direction of a complex advancement program and to ensure its alignment with organizational goals.
· Expertise in prospect research, digital campaigns, and other tools to support effective fundraising.
· Proven ability to effectively utilize and manage database systems within a data-driven and evidence-based organization; experience with Sales Force suite is preferred.
· Experience establishing strong relationships with executive leaders and volunteer boards/committees and leveraging them effectively in the fundraising process.
· Evidence of excellent leadership skills and knowledge of how to motivate and mentor a fundraising team to increase performance levels.
· Familiarity with the philanthropic and Jewish communities of St. Louis is preferred.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills to tell compelling stories to inspire donors.
· Ability to use discretion when handling and communicating sensitive information.
· Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
· Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products, virtual conferencing, and relevant CRM’s.
