Empower Missouri

Empower Missouri is seeking an Operations Manager or an Operations Director to join our team.  Depending on applicant qualifications, this role can be tailored to be a more junior position with lots of opportunity for learning and growth, or it can be tailored to be a more autonomous position for someone with the requisite experience. In general, the Operations role will partner with the Executive Director in substantially growing the organization’s internal infrastructure in the years ahead.  This role has functions in event planning/logistics, human resources and finance.  The person in this role must be highly organized and detail-oriented, be skilled at building and maintaining internal systems, and have a strong customer-service mindset.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Event Planning & Logistics (25%)

  • Manage all logistics for the organization’s annual conference in November.
  • Support Development Director with logistics for the organization’s Annual Awards Brunch in June.
  • Support policy team with logistics for advocacy days, Empower’s Annual Week of Action in Jefferson City, and other events as needed.
  • Manage logistics for all virtual Empower Missouri events, including Friday Forums.

Operations & Data (25%)

  • Serve as the virtual “front desk” staff member. Manage company phone line and direct general email inquiries.
  • Serve as the organizational expert on our project management software (currently ClickUp). Manage staff training and support on this program.
  • Serve as the organizational expert on our CRM software (currently EveryAction). Manage staff training and support on this program.
  • Manage the team’s monthly data reporting process, including updating the data dashboard on an annual basis.

Human Resources (25%)

  • Manage staff onboarding & offboarding processes
  • Manage organizational internship program
  • Manage employee benefits
  • Manage employee appreciation and retention programs
  • Manage employee professional development series
  • Manage GSuite, including all employee email address and phone numbers
  • Manage annual staff surveys
  • Support logistics and planning for quarterly all-staff retreats
  • Partner with Executive Director on annual policy review process

Finance (25%)

  • Maintain responsibility for accounts payable and receivable
  • Manage monthly employee reimbursements
  • Manage monthly credit card coding
  • Manage the organization’s contract bookkeeper/accounting firm
  • Manage donor records, including sending donor receipts
  • Manage finances for any entity to whom Empower Missouri may be providing fiscal sponsorship

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Very strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and shift priorities as needed
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills

Desired Education and Experience:

  • Manager: Minimum of three years of experience with operations, logistics, and/or administrative work, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Director: Minimum of five years of experience with operations, human resources or finance, preferably in a nonprofit setting, including demonstrated experience in autonomous project leadership

Empower Missouri is open to a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds. Competency, passion, and experience are more important than formal education, although we certainly welcome those with formal education credentials to apply.

Salary Range and Benefits:

  • Operations Manager: $45,000-$55,000 starting salary
  • Operations Director: $55,000-$65,000 starting salary

Location of Position:

This position can be based anywhere in Missouri, with anticipated 10% travel in-state.
