Circle of Concern

Circle of Concern (Circle) is a food pantry and social services agency serving 600 – 700 households monthly throughout the footprint of the Parkway, Rockwood, Kirkwood and Valley Park School districts, as well as the Fenton and High Ridge communities.  We offer wholesome foods and comprehensive programming. Through community partnerships and a best practice service model, we help families move from crisis to stability.

Position Summary

The Communications and Development Manager is an organized and adept writer, communicator and project manager who generates broad enthusiasm and support for Circle’s mission. Communications tasks comprise approximately 75% of duties; Fund development projects comprise approximately 25% of duties.  This professional is a team player who possesses exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities (Communications)

  • Coordinate external communications in support of Circle’s mission. Manage agency identity, messaging and logo identity across agency publications, printed materials (newsletter, brochures, annual report, etc.), social media and website.
  • Write and edit content for, and ensure the timely production of, the agency’s newsletter, E-News and annual report; Update and freshen copy for Circle’s brochures and website as needed.
  • Develop monthly social media content that engages donors, volunteers, sponsors, community partners and potential clients.
  • With Circle’s contracted PR & Marketing consultant ensure:
    • timely scheduling / posting of social media content
    • an effective advertising schedule that raises awareness of Circle’s programs and garners support for Circle’s development efforts
    • engagement with area media, through press releases and outreach
    • the use of approved crisis media measures
  • Be comfortable telling Circle’s story and conducting tours of our building; and educating members of our community about Circle’s mission.  Represent Circle at area churches, businesses, chambers of commerce, etc. as needed.

Responsibilities (Fund Development)

  • Develop and coordinate a grants schedule and along with other team members ensure thorough and timely submission and reporting of each.  Research and pursue new funding opportunities.  Write quality grants and steward partnerships that garner funding for Circle’s programs.
  • Write compelling appeals and ensure their timely production and release.  Employ strategies to assess the outcome and results of each.
  • Effectively promote Circle’s special events, utilizing social media, Circle’s newsletter and advertising.
  • Support admin staff as another point of contact for donors.  Offer exceptional customer service and timely responses. Understand and promote the food pantry tax credit.
  • With other staff members, assist third party groups in their fundraising and food raising activities for Circle, providing guidance, marketing materials, etc.

Responsibilities (Other)

  • On occasion, support client programs and events, helping in our client-choice pantry, assisting at a food drive, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or similar profession
  • 3 – 5 years professional experience in a communications, fundraising or marketing role.
  • Excellent computer skills — Word, Excel, PowerPoint; DonorPerfect experience is a plus.

Salary — $55,000+
