Position Summary
As an integral member of the Medical Advancement Strategic Engagement team, the Director of Engagement, Alumni & Constituents, is responsible for creating a comprehensive engagement program for School of Medicine (SOM) alumni, including planning and implementing strategic programs, communications, and experiences that contribute to the engagement and cultivation of SOM alumni and SOM and Siteman Cancer Center (SCC) annual giving donors. This position will work closely with front-line fundraisers responsible for working with School of Medicine alumni to develop sophisticated strategy development for cultivating, stewarding and recognizing alumni who have the capacity to make significant gifts. The successful applicant for this role will be an exceptional project manager and creative thinker with experience building relationships and creating experiences for constituents through innovative communications and programming.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Program Building

  • Identify opportunities to increase engagement with SOM alumni and donors in a measurable and sustainable way; develop and implement a comprehensive strategy which necessitates effective collaboration and communication with existing programs and initiatives led by colleagues across the institution including University Advancement and Medical Marketing and Communications.
  • Oversee successful execution of Celebration Weekend, an annual event, which engages School of Medicine alumni reunion celebrants; lead the evolution of this event in future years to increase ROI and participation from alumni and non-alumni Medical Advancement constituencies.

Collaborative Engagement & Stewardship

  • Work strategically with the Med Alumni Major Gifts team, SOM and SCC annual giving teams and frontline fundraisers to engage SOM alumni in key regions around the country to provide opportunities for identification and cultivation of alumni prospects; effectively inform and steward constituents and recognize donors.
  • Ensure alignment, coordination and collaboration with University Advancement’s Alumni & Constituent Engagement, Regional Programs and Donor Relations teams.

Volunteer Management

  • Manage volunteers. Analyze the structure and purpose of the Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association Executive Council (WUMCAA EC) determining next best steps with this volunteer group. Collaborate with SOM colleagues to create volunteer opportunities for alumni to connect with the school and students.

Leadership

  • Manage the assistant director of alumni engagement. As necessary, hire and manage additional staff to support the work in this area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Five to seven years of donor/alumni engagement and event management experience.
  • Experience working in a higher education institution and medical environment.
  • Experienced team, project, and volunteer manager.
  • Highly organized and efficient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen carefully, learn quickly, and work effectively in a complex and highly matrixed organization.
  • Proven experience in effectively collaborating with colleagues across unit and at all levels, using influence to persuade and engage colleagues and donors.
  • Honesty, integrity, and enthusiasm.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years of related experience.

Salary Range
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
