The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering single parents in Arkansas by providing financial assistance and educational support to help them achieve self-sufficiency through higher education. Since its inception, ASPSF has been committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering a brighter future for single-parent families.

Since its founding in 1990, Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $30 million in scholarships. ASPSF scholarships create life-changing opportunities for families by empowering single parents to complete the education they need to secure professional careers with higher wages. Their achievement, in turn, helps to ensure the success of future generations. The organization awards nearly $2 million in scholarships each year. Over 90% of ASPSF scholarship recipients either stay in school or complete their programs. Position Summary

ASPSF is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director. The Executive Director will be responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, and overall management of the organization. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a commitment to empowering single parents, and a proven track record in nonprofit leadership. The ideal candidate will be a strong fundraiser and a proven leader who can build on the organization’s success in order to increase the number of Arkansas parents served.

Key Responsibilities

This position requires a passionate and strategic individual who can provide effective leadership to a staff that works remotely throughout Arkansas.

  • Financial Management: Oversee the organization’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources. Work closely with the Board of Directors to establish and achieve financial goals.
  • Elevate Fundraising Success: Lead fundraising efforts to secure diversified financial support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. The Executive Director will also be responsible for creating new, non-grant sources of unrestricted revenue.
  • Strategic Leadership: Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the organization’s impact and reach within the community. Work to build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, board members, and donors.
  • Program Management: Oversee the administration of scholarship programs and support services for single parents, ensuring program effectiveness and compliance.

Professional Qualifications and Personal Attributes 

The ideal candidate will have strong management and fundraising experience. This person must possess a high degree of energy, integrity, and creativity. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in managing staff and volunteers, and will be capable of communicating with a wide range of audiences. Specifically, the ideal candidate will possess the following attributes, skills, and experience.

  • A passion for the ASPSF mission.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an approachable and transparent personality.
  • Fundraising skills and expertise.
  • Experience hiring and developing a collaborative team.
  • Day-to-day operational acumen – setting goals, aligning resources, and driving results.
  • Experience in assessing or evaluating programs and systems.
  • Capacity Building Skills: A proven ability to strengthen a nonprofit organization’s ability to deliver on its mission.
  • Experience running a volunteer driven organization.
  • Proven experience in nonprofit leadership preferred.
  • Knowledge of higher education systems and financial aid programs.
  • Strong written and public speaking skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • The Executive Director must live in Arkansas or be willing to relocate to Arkansas within three months of starting employment.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $125,000 – $140,000. ASPSF also offers generous PTO and a 6% employer match to a 401(K) Retirement Plan. The Executive Director may participate in the organization’s medical, vision, and dental plans.
